Role Overview Reporting directly to the Head of SHEQ – OCU Energy Services for all health, safety, quality, and environmental aspects that will affect the Business.
This will include advising on SHEQ aspects, completing monthly reports, and conducting regular meetings with the SHEQ team and customers.
Duties and Responsibilities Identify any potential SHEQ legislative change and provide guidance on the impact to the business and change required to ensure compliance.
To carry out reviews, audits, and inspections of SHEQ matters and report any areas of concern.
Provide SHEQ information and advice, at an operational, business and cultural level.
To set achievable standards that can be measured and that will improve the SHEQ performance of the business operations.
To recognise the need for SHEQ training and implement courses as required, both internal and externally.
Liaise with Client / Client Representative Health and Safety/SHEQ leads.
Produce a monthly performance report and submit to the Line Manager for review.
To be available to the SHEQ team for advice and information.
Manage the implementation of SHEQ initiatives.
Chair Monthly Health & Safety Meetings to discuss ongoing performance and identify areas of improvement.
Complete and forward minutes outlining actions to be taken.
Examine Near miss reports and ensure modifications are made to address issues.
Ensure all Safety Alerts / Instructions are communicated to all in a timely manner to ensure improvements are implemented to business operations.
Health and Safety Responsibilities: Ensure that operations and sites under their control have effective systems, arrangements, and supervision for providing a safe workplace and suitable welfare facilities.
Ensure that suitable project specific execution plans are produced reviewed and updated on a regular basis and their requirements are communicated and understood by all project personnel and any others who may be affected.
Review, maintain, update, and amend safe systems of work to ensure it is safe and without risk to health, and the changes are recorded in Project Health and Safety Plans.
Ensure that all project personnel have the necessary experience, training, and knowledge to carry out the duties allocated to them.
Identify and recommend necessary training for any project personnel with emphasis on new and young personnel and those involved in high-risk activities.
Ensure that all project personnel attend induction training prior to commencing work and receive regular toolbox training.
Ensure that risk assessments are undertaken for every activity and that safe system of work are developed, maintained, and communicated to all personnel undertaking the activity.
Review completed activities together with the appropriate risk assessments/method statements and make recommendations for improvements from lessons learnt.
Ensure that all workplaces have an effective system of consulting with all employees and subcontractors.
Ensure that a competent person accompanies anyone without a valid CSCS Card if access to a construction site is required.
Investigate all accidents and incidents and communicate findings to the relevant personnel.
Demonstrate commitment.
Support the Head of SHEQ in continuous improvement of the OCU Group SHEQ Management system and development of processes.
Notify the Plant/Transport Manager and Safety Advisor when changes to plant/transport are made which may affect the safety of the business.
Feedback to personnel any lessons learnt and good practice.
Stop operations considered unsafe, damaging to the environment, or compromising quality.
Skills and Experience Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook) and basic computer skills are required.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to interact professionally with colleagues, clients, and visitors.
Strong organisational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to prioritise tasks and manage time effectively.
