Job summary We are looking for a suitably qualified Radiographer to apply for the post of a Senior Radiographer fixed term position to cover maternity leave for 12 months.
You will work closely with the General Superintendent Radiographer with a particular emphasis on managing the radiographic services in General X-ray.
You will be experienced in all x-ray and fluoroscopy procedures and provide a patient focused professional service.
You will have some managerial experience and in conjunction with the Superintendent have the ability to lead the service through changing and challenging times.
You will be expected to rotate through all areas of the department.We actively encourage staff to undertake continuing professional development and extension of the radiographers' role.
The successful candidate will be given the opportunity to extend their role in line with service needs.
Main duties of the job The postholder will be required: To work alongside the General, Fluoroscopic and Theatre Superintendent to integrate the General x-ray services for Ashford and St Peter's Hospitals NHS TrustTo participate in the A&E and Emergency on-call serviceTo participate in the training of student radiographers and assistant practitionersTo work in conjunction with the General, Fluoroscopic and Theatre Superintendent to improve service delivery and service improvement for the benefit of the patientTo maintain high clinical standards, particularly regarding patient care, clinical risk and Health and SafetyTo liaise with other Health Care Professionals and departmental staff on a daily basis to ensure the optimal care for patientsTo continue to develop ones own knowledge, practice and development through continued professional developmentTo maintain clinical expertise by rotating through other imaging service areasTo understand the implications of the Health and Safety at Work Act and ensure a safe working environment for patients, staff, visitors and staff according to the Trusts' Health and Safety Policy.

Job description Job responsibilities To undertake General, Fluoroscopic and Theatre examinations regularly, ensuring high technical and professional standardsTo prepare the patient for diagnostic examinations and fulfil the requirements of correct patient identification, confidentiality and data protectionTo maintain and enhance clinical expertise by rotating regularly to other imaging service areas and to carry out imaging examinationsTo provide a personal and patient focused X-ray serviceTo assist, train and supervise staff in General, Fluoroscopic and Theatre examinations as appropriate and to provide leadership and motivationTo induct imaging staff to the working of the X-ray areas with special attention to fire alarms and evacuation proceduresTo liaise with consultants, nursing, clerical and other staff within the hospitals for the benefits of patient careTo assist with the day to day running of the computer system and help with computer trainingEnsure the fabric of the department and the patient waiting areas are in good and safe working order and to arrange repairs as requiredTo report any equipment malfunction immediately to the Line Manager and to organise repairs where appropriateTo deal with patients enquiries/complaints in the first instance and to provide details to the Operations Service Manager for a formal response to the Imaging Services managerEnsure departmental and housekeeping protocols and practice are maintained to prevent hospital acquired infectionTo adhere to the Code of Practice for ionising radiation (IR(ME)R Regulations) and the local rules for radiation safetyTo deputise for the line manager when necessary, take charge and prioritise the departmental workload to ensure the efficient running of the x-ray departmentTo show initiative in generating new ideas and methods of working to promote and enhance best practice and help achieve the radiological department and trusts long term goalsTo be trained in cannulation, venopuncture and the administration of contrast mediaTo participate in the on call system as appropriate Will be expected to participate in the extended working day rota when implemented Person Specification Qualifications Essential DCR or BSc Diagnostic Radiographer (or equivalent) Evidence of CPD Current Membership to Professional Body Desirable Post graduate qualification Experience Essential Clinical experience (minimum 3 years) Experience in staff training and supervision Proven ability to deliver a high quality service Ability to implement change in line with needs of the directorate Desirable To have experience in a radiology computer system To have experience in recruitment and retention initiatives Project Management Knowledge Essential Understanding of IRMER and IRR17 and Infection Control requirements Knowledge and understanding of the key aspects of the latest NHS targets Understanding of clinical governance within radiology Skills Essential You have knowledge & awareness of diversity and human rights and the competencies appropriate to your role to support their diverse needs and human rights You are able to communicate effectively with them and with other staff to ensure that their care, treatment and support are not compromised You have a good understanding of their communication, physical & emotional needs; can identify their individual needs and preferences, their changing needs and recognise and promote their independence.
