Role overview: The Product Function at Tes is transforming and expanding, and as a result we have multiple vacancies in the product team. This Senior Product Manager role is to own our core recruitment products i.e. the Teacher Jobs Board and the Applicant Tracking System (ATS) used by school staff managing recruitment. In this role you will own the strategy, roadmap and product delivery for one of our highest value portfolios. You will be expected over time to own and manage profit and loss (P&L) for this portfolio, working closely with Sales to drive value and enable value conversion. Due to the value of the portfolio, this role will involve senior leadership and board level stakeholder interaction and management. There is a real opportunity to make change in this role – these products are currently going through significant back-end transformation which will enable a real iteration in customer functionality and user experience.
As a Senior Product Manager you will also have additional responsibilities relating to the operating of the function. You will lead an area of product operations, manage or mentor Product Managers and lead pieces of functional transformation activity.
You will work in a matrix organisation setup in a hybrid scaled agile model, collaborating with all the large functions in Tes (Engineering, Data Function, Transformation & Business Change, Sales, Marketing, Operations, Finance).
Key Responsibilities: DISCOVER:
Value Proposition Ownership– Own the vision, strategy and roadmap for the recruitment product portfolio – driving portfolio, individual product and wider 'connected eco-system' value. Communicate this to the organisation, working to gain understanding and buy-in from all areas.Implement & Manage Intake Processes– Run processes which enable customers and other Tes functions to suggest product ideas and raise work/change requests, working with the engineering function to get size estimates to inform decisions. Prioritise the near term and future roadmaps – communicate outcomes to stakeholder groups. Research & Insights Scoping– Work with User Researchers to design pieces of research and insight and experiment work necessary to shape future product direction. Conduct competitor analysis and benchmarking plus technology horizon scanning; attend industry conferences and engage in customer visits where useful.DELIVER:
Define High Level Initiatives & Epics (in Jira) – Drive the completion of the early high level product design work to the point of having key functionality areas identified. Ensure the identification, planning and specification of required related work (data tagging, BI reporting setup etc). Design KPIs & metrics to measure initiative and portfolio success.Support the Delivery Function: Support PMs/POs working through the design and delivery processes. Handle escalations, make the difficult decisions. Provide support to the incident and triage processes, particularly from a value assessment perspective.Support Business Change –work with the Business Change function to ensure that there is programme and change support where needed for your portfolio. Collaborate to develop programme plans for the time critical activity in your portfolio.Lead Product Improvement & Transformation Activity –including training and mentoring of more junior staff (e.g. Product Owners & Product Managers).DRIVE:
Go To Market– Lead the shaping of launch and release plans, determining what value should be grouped together. Drive the planning and execution of go to market activity for all releases in your portfolio.Success Measurement – Lead the specification of metrics/KPIs necessary to enable data evidenced measurement of the success, value and health of your releases and products. Collaborate with the Data Engineering function to ensure dashboards and reporting required to effectively communicate these are created and shared.P&L Ownership – You will work closely with finance and engineering colleagues to ensure the operating cost of your product portfolio is understood. You will own profit and loss for your product portfolio working with Sales to enhance value and maximise conversion. You will set and review product pricing and be responsible for offering design (e.g subscription models).Insights Gathering & Exploration– Learn how your service and capabilities are working well and where things could be better through avenues such as Ops & Service Reviews, Product Analytics, User Surveys & Forums etc. Use this to shape your future visions, strategies & roadmaps.Run parts of functional operations – you will be responsible for ensuring a type or activity or a particular process is operating well for the entire function and that it is being well reported on.What will you need to succeed?
