About usWe are looking for an enthusiastic and knowledgeable planner to join our planning policy team on a permanent basis as we embark on our first review of the Vale of Glamorgan Local Development Plan.The Vale of Glamorgan offers an exciting variety of planning work in a diverse area which boasts beautiful coast and countryside in an attractive place to live and work with strong social and economic links to the wider Cardiff Capital Region.The Vale is identified as a National Growth Area in Future Wales and the replacement LDP will need to respond to that demand for growth whilst protecting our environmental assets and meeting our ambitions to tackle climate change through truly sustainable development.We are looking for a hard-working and committed planner who will give their best and in return we offer flexible working with a mix of office and home working, a generous salary and great working environment with a supportive management structure that encourages independent work and nurtures talent.
About the rolePay Details: Grade 9 £40,476 - £44,711 per annumHours of Work / Working Pattern: 37 hours per week (Mon-Fri)Main Place of Work: Dock Office/HybridDescription: To undertake and assist with all tasks related to the work of the Planning Policy team.
About youYou will need:• Minimum of two years relevant experience.• Experience of engaging and working with stakeholders e.g.
statutory consultees, the public, politicians, developers.• Experience of desk based and / or field research to gather evidence to inform decision making.• Experience of preparing reports to inform decision making• Detailed knowledge of the Development Plan system in Wales• Working knowledge of relevant national, regional and local planning legislation and policies relevant to the Vale of Glamorgan.• Knowledge of consultation and engagement techniques.• Ability to forge and work in partnership.• Ability to deal direct with Councillors, members of the public as well as public/private organisations.• Excellent communication skills.• Computer literate.• Relevant degree/post graduate qualification.• Eligible for Membership or working towards membership of the Royal Town Planning Institute or relevant professional body.• Passionate about planning and the role of planning in delivering sustainable development for the well-being of future generations.• Ability to deal with a wide and varied workload relating to planning policy and complete tasks within deadlines.• Team player and act on own initiative• Ability to drive/travel throughout the Vale or between locations as appropriate.
Computer literate – able to use core Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Teams, Powerpoint), databases and GIS.
