Job summary We are pleased to announce a new opportunity for a specialist clinical pharmacist in haematology at York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, made possible by our recent investment in cancer and aseptic services.
As a specialist clinical pharmacist in haematology, you will provide essential pharmaceutical care to patients with blood disorders such as leukaemia, lymphoma, and myeloma.
Previous experience in cancer services is essential.
You will work closely with our multidisciplinary clinical team and will be supported by an 8b advanced pharmacist and cancer pharmacy team.
As the clinical link between pharmacy cancer services and aseptic services, you'll directly contribute to the safe, effective, and cost-efficient use of medications.
You will be involved in prescribing clinics, providing tailored medication advice and management to patients.
A prescribing qualification or working towards one is essential.
To succeed in this role, you should have strong communication skills, a clinical interest in cancer care, and the ability to use technology and drive improvements.

Main duties of the job Provide expert pharmaceutical advice on chemotherapy, biologics, and other treatments for haematological conditions.
Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and ward rounds, offering recommendations on drug therapy, medication adjustments, and patient care plans.
Contribute to the safe preparation and dispensing of chemotherapy and other sterile preparations within the pharmacy aseptic unit.
Prescribe medications in your role as a non-medical prescriber, including supportive therapies for haematology patients, in line with established treatment protocols and within the scope of your prescribing qualification.
Train and mentor pharmacy staff, including junior pharmacists and technicians, on clinical pharmacy practices in haematology and aseptic services.
Contribute to clinical research studies, audits, and quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient care and outcomes in haematology.
Participation in working the weekend (currently 1 in 8), Bank Holiday (1 per year) and on call rotas.
On call working frequency (from home) is only approximately 1 in 30 nights.
Interviews will take place in the first week of February 2025.

Person Specification Education, Qualifications and Training Essential Degree in pharmacy (Masters or equivalent) Registered member of the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) Continuous Professional Development to meet the requirements of the GPhC Postgraduate qualification in pharmacy at least to Diploma/MSc level, relevant to post or equivalent experience Desirable Member of Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain or specialist pharmacist group Management training Non-Medical Prescribing qualification Experience & Knowledge Required Essential Broad post registration experience at least part of which must be of hospital pharmacy A length of experience sufficient to gain the competencies required for the post Knowledge of Medicines & Pharmacy Legislation, professional ethics, Health & Safety and the wider Health Service Knowledge of Clinical Governance, Medicines Optimisation, Patient Safety, Risk Management, NICE guidance, Shared Care Guidelines, and the development agenda relevant to the post Knowledge of theoretical and practical issues, including professional guidelines and legislation, related to use of medicines and practice of pharmacy in the specialist areas Understanding and practical experience of audit and service improvement Desirable Experience of managing a team of professional and support staff Skills & Attributes Essential Able to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
