Job summary Band 8A Mechanical Services Manager - Estates The Estates Department at University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust is looking to recruit a suitably qualified and experienced Mechanical Services Manager to work as part of the engineering team delivering a diverse range of mechanical services, projects, compliance and assurance for the organisation.
This is an excellent opportunity to work as part of a dedicated Estates engineering team delivering positive improvements to the Healthcare Estate and providing a safe and compliant environment for patients, staff and visitors.
The post holder will be responsible for a small team including a support manager and mechanical clerk of works.
Applicants must have experience of working in a busy environment; be suitably qualified and self-motivated with excellent communication skills.
Applicants will also be required to demonstrate successful delivery within a mechanical maintenance/contracting environment and provide evidence of project management with successful outcomes.
Previous healthcare experience is preferred but not essential.
The ability to travel between sites and there will be a requirement to take part in a Management on-call rota.

Interview date: Friday 20th December 2024 Main duties of the job To lead and manage the provision of Mechanical Engineering Services (Non-Medical), ensuring that these are safe and available for their intended use and that the Trust complies with Statutory Obligations, and undertake the role in line with the vision and values of the organisation.
They will also have line management responsibility for the Mechanical Services Support Manager and the Mechanical Clerk of Works.
Budgetary control will be provided for the revenue expenditure and capital schemes as delegated and authorised.
***Preference will be given to internal Trust staff, as well as 'Priority' and 'At Risk' status including NHS At Risk staff throughout Devon who are able to display recent relevant experience as dictated by the Person Specification.

Job description Job responsibilities Manage, monitor and co-ordinate all engineering installations, services and work activities ensuring compliance with relevant current legislation, NHS guidance, health and safety, standards, codes of practice, Trust policies, and regulations.Advise the Head of Estates on all aspects of mechanical engineering services, ensuring compliance, and that the service is safe and delivered within budget.Be accountable to the organisation for being the operational lead for mechanical engineering compliance.Deputise for the Head of Estates as required.Support and cover the senior team over core hours to provide extra resilience.Work with members of the Trust and key stakeholders to develop and maintain a positive reputation for efficiency and operational responsiveness.
Person Specification Knowledge and Experience Essential Understanding of contracts and procurement rules Track record of delivery in a senior engineering role Working proven knowledge of NHS technical documentation, British Standards, regulations, legislation, and codes of practice, health and safety legislation and Trust policies, procedures, and Standard Financial Instructions Demonstrable experience of working with complex engineering systems Demonstrable proficiency in Microsoft Office Demonstrable management experience in managing and leading a team Desirable Proven knowledge of computerised control systems Understanding of specialist computer design software etc.
Qualifications Essential Relevant degree in electrical or mechanical engineering, or equivalent qualification Authorised Person for mechanical systems Evidence of CPD Membership of relevant recognised professional body or working towards professional status Relevant Health & Safety qualification Desirable Chartered Engineer Status Management qualification IET Registration First Aid trained Aptitude and Abilities Essential Financial acumen The ability to use risk management software Presentation skills Excellent written and oral communication skills, including report writing, problem solving, decision making, and analytical skills Negotiation, communication and influencing skills Real team player (to include emotional intelligence and political astuteness) PC skills, including spreadsheets (, Excel, PowerPoint) Proven leadership and staff management skills (visible leader) Demonstrable experienced in the use of a wide range of Microsoft packages with keyboard skills including written corporate documents Organisation/time management skills Desirable Working Proven knowledge of AutoCAD Emotional intelligence Disposition/Attitude/Motivation Essential Resourceful, driven, can-do attitude Personal integrity, open, inclusive leadership style Able to cope well under pressure Highly motivated and works under own initiative Exemplary standards of personal and professional behaviour Ability to manage conflicting priorities and variations to workload Other factors Essential Able to work flexibly Work outside of office hours and contribute to Site Services on-call rota Ability to travel between sites Able to attend National meetings and conferences if required
