Senior Mechanical Design Engineer High Value, Bespoke Nuclear Projects £65,000 - £70,000 + Benefits Package German company - remote position *Candidates must be able to spend 6-8 weeks in Germany for onboarding and training.
After this period the position can be conducted remotely *Candidates must have EU citizenship or a valid work permit to work in the EU The Company We are currently supporting a German company that specialises in the design and development of inert gas systems and gloveboxes, used primarily for controlled atmosphere applications.
Headquartered in Garching, Germany, they have established themselves as a global leader in creating high-quality equipment for handling sensitive materials in industries like semiconductor manufacturing, nuclear processing, pharmaceuticals, research, and lithium-ion battery development.
The Position Due to continued growth and an influx of a number of high-value projects they are looking to hire an experienced Senior Design Engineer to strengthen their custom projects team.
This person will be responsible for designing, developing, and overseeing the creation of mechanical systems, components, design & safety calculations, risk assessments and FMEAs for bespoke machinery systems.
This person will also be responsible for conceptualising designs, conducting simulations, managing projects, and guiding junior engineers to ensure that mechanical systems meet all safety and technical specifications.
Depending on the complexity of the project and project stage, this person will work on roughly three to four parallel projects ranging in value from €0.5 million up to €5 million+.
Due to the complex nature of the projects this person will work with interdisciplinary teams and involves collaboration with internal development teams including electrical and software engineering, project management and sales/applications.
Your Key Responsibilities: You analyse customer requirements for hermetically sealed containment systems for Nuclear applications, concerning technical feasibility and developing suitable solutions with a focus on personal protection Work in interdisciplinary teams to develop detailed solution concepts and translate these into specifications Prepare ergonomic considerations, design calculations, safety calculations, risk assessments and FMEAs for the plant concept you have developed Transfer the technical solution concept into cost structures on the basis of which the system can be offered Create the basic mechanical and process engineering design in the form of flow charts and 3D models They define the quality standards necessary for the project, particularly with regard to materials, welding procedures and tests and surface finish They cooperate with external approval bodies as required to achieve the required certifications Instruct detailed designers, technical draftsmen and editors involved in the project regarding the implementation and monitor their work results You support the sales department in technical detail discussions with customers Your profile for this position You have completed a degree in mechanical engineering, process engineering, chemical engineering, nuclear engineering or a comparable qualification You have several years of relevant experience in plant engineering in at least one of the pharmaceutical, biotech or nuclear sectors You are proficient in relevant CAE tools – especially for creating 3D models and P&IDs You have experience in the practical application of common standards and guidelines from mechanical engineering, process and welding technology You have a great interest and understanding of new technical developments, challenges and solutions You impress with your own responsibility, independence and a very structured and organized way of working You enjoy developing innovative, technically sophisticated solutions together with customers and colleagues You have very good German and English skills, a sense of responsibility as well as a strong team orientation and service mentality What can you expect?
