Job summary As a Senior Healthcare Technical Officer, you will play a key role in ensuring the accurate and efficient delivery of vital blood, blood products and tissues to hospitals in the South East.
Acting as the first point of contact for hospital requests, your responsibilities will include processing and dispatching orders, performing "pick and pack" tasks, and managing inventory.
You will also monitor storage conditions, maintain equipment, and support the smooth running of the healthcare supply chain.NHS Blood and Transplant (NHSBT) provides a dynamic, collaborative working environment where precision, teamwork, and dedication directly contribute to saving lives.
Main duties of the job Order Fulfilment and Picking/Packing: Accurately pick and pack blood and related products for hospital orders, ensuring all items are properly prepared and labelled for dispatch.
Inventory and Stock Management: Monitor stock levels, manage stock rotation, and maintain proper storage conditions, including temperature-controlled environments.
Manual Handling and Equipment Use: Safely handle equipment and supplies, with or without mechanical aids, in accordance with health and safety guidelines.
Shift Work: Work flexible hours, including weekends and public holidays, as part of a 24/7 shift pattern to ensure constant supply chain support.
Equipment and Storage Monitoring: Perform regular checks on storage units to ensure supplies are kept at the required conditions, addressing any issues promptly.
Documentation and Compliance: Keep accurate records of stock movements and dispatches, ensuring compliance with healthcare logistics standards.
Emergency Deliveries: Respond efficiently to urgent delivery requests, processing, and dispatching orders quickly and accurately.

This is a post, operating on a 24/7 shift-based pattern covering days, evenings, nights, and public holidays, with some lone working.
The role follows an 8-week shift pattern and requires participation in an on-call rota.
A recruitment and retention payment: 5% of your basic salary, subject to a minimum of £1,258 and a maximum of £2,122.

Generous annual leave entitlement: 27 days plus bank holidays (pro rata for part-time), increasing to 29 days after five years and 33 days after ten years.

Person Specification Qualifications Essential This role is ideal for individuals with excellent organisational skills, strong attention to detail, and the ability to perform in a fast-paced healthcare logistics environment.

Experience Essential Level 4 qualification BTEC or HNC in a relevant science subject, NHSBT Foundation Degree OR equivalent knowledge and experience of working in a manufacturing, logistics or supply chain environment requiring intermediate level theoretical knowledge acquired through formal training.
