The Senior Healthcare Assistant / Assistant Practitioner will be providing direct hands-on support and advice in all matters relating to a range of presenting conditions at the UTC, whilst providing effective and supportive leadership skills to the HCA team.
This is a full-time permanent position, working 4 shifts per week on a rostered basis 3 days = 10-hour shifts 1 day = shift The UTC is open Monday to Sunday, from 07:30 to 22:00 Pay enhancements for working antisocial hours!
Main duties of the job The appointed Senior Healthcare Assistant / Assistant Practitioner will work closely with Registered Nurses, Paramedics and other clinical staff and will look to provide effective supervision to the Healthcare Assistant Team, ensuring that a high quality of essential basic clinical care to patients is being achieved.
As well as having your own patients to treat and care for, you will be supervising the other Healthcare Assistants to develop the skills they require to provide the best care, treatment and monitoring.
This will include, but not limited to; Application and removal of dressings, plaster of Paris, splints, walking boots and slings Checking and monitoring vital signs, and other particulars like blood glucose levels Selecting suitable dressings for the closure of varied wounds such as glue or Steristips Measuring for correct walking aids and explaining and demonstrating how to use them Assisting and referring patients to varied support services such as the burns unit or local Emergency Department Youll be conscious of health, safety and hygiene aspects and constantly promote this thought the HCA team, especially looking out for potential hazards, and notifying the Centre Manger.
In addition, youll assist with the management of stock and equipment, ensuring good levels and ordering when appropriate, pre-empting any shortfalls.
About us We see the appointed Senior Healthcare Assistant / Assistant Practitioner coming from a very similar background within a hospital setting having held a team lead, mentor or supervisor responsibility in the past.
Youll hold an NVQ level 2 in Health and Social Care or equivalent and will be aware of the applicable National Minimum Standards in relation to the Healthcare.
Youll be computer literate, familiar with accurately updating records and databases with the ability to pick up new systems easily.
Youll be an effective communicator at all levels, both written and verbal, used to liaising with departments internal and external and communicating with patients as well as their family, friends or carers.
