The project: Supporting an ongoing multi-£m, London based BAU/lifecycle replacement programme that extends beyond 2029, across a diverse range of historic and listed buildings looking to optimise energy efficiency and carbon reduction through a retrofit approach.
The programme requires senior design management support relating to various specialisms including conservation architecture, civil and structural engineering, mechanical, electrical and public health engineering, broadcasting, infrastructure, and public realm.
The design management support will act as the interface between the appointed design consultants and the client's team to ensure the design meets the programme objectives.
You will be responsible for: Liaising with the lead designer and design consultants and specialist consultants through all RIBA stages.Acting as the day-to-day operational manager for any design managers or other design management resources deployed to projects.Being the main point of contact for client design issues, ensuring relationships are managed and maintained.Leading the delivery of design management to deliver key strategic outcomes directly influencing strategic development.Leading the design management of the lead designer and any other design consultants in the project team to deliver all outputs required for each RIBA stage. Ensuring timely submission of RIBA stage reports, deliverables, and design sign off.Managing tools including but not limited to DMP, design responsibility matrix, design programme, design risk registers, EWNs, etc.Monitoring all design activities to ensure they are coordinated and ensuring timely and efficient stakeholder engagement (both internal and external), incorporating stakeholder feedback in the design as required and the governance to support the smooth management of these internal processes.Managing the design team to ensure design strategies including but not limited to procurement, commercial, BIM, sustainability, and fire engineering are successfully developed throughout the delivery of the project.Managing the design management of the lead designer and any other design consultants obtaining all statutory requirements in particular planning approvals, listed building consent, and building regulation.Reviewing the design proposals identifying deficiencies and opportunities, completeness, quality, and coordination of the design.Supporting the senior team members with the development of a detailed design programme with all relevant parties to satisfy design, procurement, cost, and construction requirements.Chairs/attends and coordinates internal and external meetings including client meetings, design team, and internal and external stakeholder meetings.You will need to have: A degree in architecture or engineering, or a combination of education, training, and experience deemed equivalent.Extensive professional design management experience.Good understanding of the full design process. Designs within listed buildings and working on retrofit experience is beneficial.Confidence working with digital design and management programmes, ability to build lasting client relationships and work to develop strong, motivated teams.You will also have: Membership of ARB, RIBA, MICE, CIBSE, CIOB, RICS, CIAT or equivalent demonstrable professional or personal development.Extensive experience in the successful delivery phase of projects and programmes through all stages.Knowledge of working within listed buildings and working on retrofit projects.Understanding of statutory regulations in particular planning and listed building consent.Leadership and management experience of large, diverse teams.Experience of managing relationships with key senior stakeholders.Knowledge of how carbon and sustainability considerations will shape the outlook of the projects you are working on.Mace is an inclusive employer and welcomes interest from a diverse range of candidates.
