Senior Consultant – Nature and Biodiversity Focus (Financial Services Climate and Sustainability) About Baringa:
We set out to build the world's most trusted consulting firm – creating lasting impact for clients and pioneering a positive, people-first way of working.
We work with everyone from FTSE 100 names to bright new start-ups, in every sector.
You'll find us collaborating shoulder-to-shoulder with our clients, from the big picture right down to the detail: helping them define their strategy, deliver complex change, spot the right commercial opportunities, manage risk, or bring their purpose and sustainability goals to life.
Our clients love how we get to know what makes their organisations tick – slotting seamlessly into their teams and being proudly geeky about solving their challenges.
As a Certified B Corporation, we've proven that we've built social and environmental good into every bit of what we do.
We have hubs in Europe, the US, Asia and Australia, and we work all around the world - from a wind farm in Wyoming to a boardroom in Berlin.
Find us wherever there's a challenge to be tackled and an impact to be made.
Our Financial Services Climate and Sustainability practice is looking for an experienced Senior Consultant with Nature expertise to join the team.
Our team is formed of industry specialists in climate and sustainability from the world's leading financial institutions, regulators and think tanks.
Our clients trust Baringa to work with them to solve their most challenging problems, enjoying 'how' we work, on top of our expertise.
Our projects are led by experts in their field, coupled with access to peers across Baringa's sectors and geographies.
We partner on strategy, transition regulation, disclosure and more, bringing practical experience on embedding into decision making and across financial institutions.
We have supported over £200bn of investment in transition over the last five years and have created decarbonisation pathways covering 250 million tonnes of emissions.
As our clients incorporate the climate-nature nexus into their business models, we are seeing rapidly increasing demand for support in integrating nature and biodiversity into risk management and scenario analysis, opportunity identification and product design, and disclosures including through frameworks like the Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures, and Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive.
What you will be doing Working across a diverse range of financial institution clients including pension funds, private equity, banks and insurers.Collaborating on a breadth of climate and sustainability projects across these clients, but with a primary focus on enabling our engagements with clients on nature and biodiversity.Supporting the development of nature scenario analysis, including scenario narrative development and calibration, and execution of shorter- and longer-term scenarios for stress testing and business planning.Enabling clients to meet nature and biodiversity-related regulatory expectations, both existing requirements from supervisors such as the European Central Bank, and helping track emerging requirements across Baringa's and our clients' geographies.Bringing scenario analysis together with market insight and forecasts to advise on nature capital needs, critically analysing where commercial opportunities will arise for our clients and how different financial institutions can address these.Aiding financial institutions in setting organisational strategy and appetite on nature, considering the implications for pre-existing sustainability or climate strategies including the contribution nature and biodiversity can make to sustainable finance commitments or targets.Guiding on metrics and targets, which financial institutions can use to show their impact on nature and biodiversity and contribution toward goals such as the Global Biodiversity Framework or nature positive outcomes.Helping clients prepare for disclosures, from integrating nature into transition plans to creating standalone Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD) reports.Playing an active role in engaging current and prospective clients on the topic of nature and biodiversity, representing Baringa's capabilities.Enabling Baringa's industry presence as a TNFD Forum member, Science Based Targets for Nature Referral Group member, and active participant in industry working groups.Internally sharing experience and knowledge on nature and biodiversity with Baringa teams serving other clients and across our global offices, using this knowledge and experience to help them identify ways Baringa can further support their clients.Your skills and experience You will bring prior experience of working with organisations on nature and biodiversity projects, with a strong preference for this to have been in a consultancy setting. You will also bring experience of working on broader climate and sustainability projects, again preferably in a consultancy setting. You'll be able to demonstrate how this experience has helped organisations solve operational challenges around risk and regulatory compliance, opportunity or disclosure.Ideally you will have worked with, or within, a financial institution.
If not, you will bring knowledge of the sector through learning with organisations such as CFA or GARP.You will be able to demonstrate analytical and data handling skills, as well as the ability to infer insights and key takeaways from such analysis. You will have formal qualifications in environmental science; ideally at undergraduate degree level but potentially at post-graduate level. What a career at Baringa will give you Putting People First.

We recognise the importance of work-life balance and flexible working and provide our staff amazing benefits.
Some of these benefits include:
Generous Annual Leave Policy: We recognise everyone needs a well-deserved break.
We provide our employees with 5 weeks of annual leave, fully available at the start of each year.
In addition to this, we have introduced our 5-Year Recharge benefit which allows all employees an additional 2 weeks of paid leave after 5 years continuous service.Flexible Working: We know that the 'ideal' work-life balance will vary from person to person and change at different stages of our working lives.
To accommodate this, we have implemented a hybrid working policy and introduced more flexibility around taking unpaid leave.Corporate Responsibility Days: Our world is important to us, so all our employees get 3 every year to help social and environmental causes and increase our impact on the communities that mean the most to us.Wellbeing Fund: We want to encourage all employees to take charge and prioritise their own wellbeing.
We've introduced our annual People Fund to support this by offering every individual a fund to support and manage their wellbeing through an activity of their choice.Career Progression: No one develops at the same pace.
That's why we have quarterly rather than annual promotion reviews.
We don't have any quotas: if you're ready and delivering at the right level, you'll get that promotion.Profit Share Scheme: All employees participate in the Baringa Group Profit Share Scheme so everyone has a stake in the company's success.Diversity and Inclusion.
