Job summary The Croft is a ward specialising in the treatment of children and their families we are looking for an experienced nurse with excellent clinical skills and leadership qualities to join our Tier 4 children's services in order to provide robust, creative and compassionate care to our diverse client group.Situated just outside Cambridge, this specialist unit is one of two commissioned Child and Adolescent Mental Health inpatient wards, providing excellent care to young people and their families.
The co-location of these units is unique in the region and thus provides exceptional opportunities for professional development in this specialist area of mental health work, benefiting both the young people and staff within the units.As a Band 6 Nurse you would be working shifts alongside a team of nursing staff and supported by a multidisciplinary team, You will benefit from an induction, regular supervision and learning and development opportunities.
You will be an experienced Nurse who enjoys supporting others and leading by example.
Main duties of the job The poster holder will assist the Ward Manager and Clinical Nurse Specialist in the provision of clinical leadership and to be a clinical role model to the 24-hour inpatient team.
Working in conjunction with the Service Manager to set, maintain and audit clinical standards in adherence to local and national priorities.
Acting on behalf of and to deputise, as directed by the Clinical Nurse Specialist in their absence and provide quality evidence-based nursing advice, support and care for service users with mental and physical health needs and to their carers within a multidisciplinary setting.
The post holder will be responsible for overseeing the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of nursing care within agreed parameters, and have a working knowledge of local, national policies and legislation which govern current service provision.The post holder will be responsible for identifying and contributing to the training needs of junior registered and unregistered staff, and ensure that issues of equality, diversity and rights are dealt with in accordance with good practice and legislation.
They will ensure that effective communication pathways exist, and that they act within their sphere of responsibility, providing clinical leadership alongside the Ward Manager, Deputy Ward Manager and Clinical Nurse Specialist.

Utilising the data available such as learning from incidences and complaints.To ensure the post holder understands and meets their professional role and responsibilities under the Care Programme Approach.To ensure that the requirements of the Mental Health Act 2007 are observed, adhered to and implemented.To be responsible for the promotion of carer and service user involvement within the service and for its provision.
To encourage recovery, discovery and independence, taking into account risk assessment and management.To be responsible for establishing therapeutic relationships with service users, and the implementation of evidence based therapeutic interventions with appropriate boundaries in accordance with Nursing and Midwifery Councils professional code of conduct.To ensure the provision of social/therapeutic activities for service users.
Person Specification Education / Qualifications Essential Registered Nurse Mental Health (RNMH) or other specialism relating to post such as Registered Nurse Learning Disability (RNLD) or Registered Nurse Children's (RNC) NMC registration Evidence of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Mentor qualification / ENB 998 or equivalent Desirable Post graduate qualification related to ward specialism Additional qualification for specialism Experience Essential Experience of inpatient services and working as part of a multi-disciplinary team Experience of Mental Capacity Act Experience of supervising staff Experience of dealing with service users with complex mental health needs Experience working with Children, Young People and Families Desirable Previous experience of undertaking Continuing Care Assessments Experience of developing service user and carer involvement Experience relating to ward specialism Experience with Service improvement Knowledge & Skills Essential Effective communication skills both verbally and written, including IT literacy (MS Office).
Ability to build effective working relationships with staff across a wide range of professional and managerial groups Ability to calmly manage complex and stressful situations, prioritising own work and the work of others Thorough understanding of care planning and the Care Programme Approach (where appropriate) Awareness of safeguarding issues and responsibilities under relevant legislation Understanding of the legislation relating to care including - Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act, Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards Act, Children's Act, Equality Act 2010, Health and Safety Act and the Data Protection Act Desirable Ability to present complex information to various audiences The Trust's 7C's and Respect Enable Values (REV) initiative expectations Knowledge of Trauma informed care Knowledge of AMBIT / Mentalization Physical Requirements Essential Physically able to undertake a demanding role safely, as and when required The ability to undertake physical intervention training Other Essential To continue your professional development and participate in annual appraisal and the performance management process Interest in enhancing service user engagement
