Job Overview The University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust (UHL) are inviting applications for the Senior Clinical Fellow in HPB Surgery (Peri-CCT).
The successful candidate will be able to take up post for a period of 12 months initially with a view to this being extended by mutual agreement.
The SCF post has been specifically designed to help motivate people further in their careers in Hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgery.
These posts will allow successful candidates to develop their clinical skills and experience in a hospital with a track record of innovative service delivery, excellence in training and clinical research.
Main Duties of the Job Participate in the running of department/ward.
Provide surgical clinical supervision of Junior doctors on the wards.
Participate in the general surgical on-call triage rota at registrar level (There may be an opportunity to work on the 1st on-call rota, dependent on experience).
Provide senior medical input for non-surgical wards when on-call (especially Out of Hours).
Assist with achieving the DOH Clinical Quality Indicators.
The ability to work well in a multidisciplinary team is essential to this post.
You will participate in operational and research projects and the teaching of the Senior House Officers, Medical Students, Nursing staff and other Ancillary staff.
Supervise, monitor and assist Junior Medical Doctors in the day-to-day management of in-patients.
Attend and participate in ward rounds as timetabled.
Take part in timetabled Emergency work, contributing senior input to the on-call team, which may include leading the arrest team, running the surgical admissions unit and triage area as the surgical registrar on call, reviewing medical patients on base wards, and providing a medical opinion for patients in other specialities.
Participate in Surgical Outpatient Clinics.
Attend weekly educational and multidisciplinary sessions.

Person Specification Training & Qualifications Essential Criteria Full GMC registration with a license to practice.
MRCS qualification.
Desirable Criteria Evidence of commitment to surgical training.
Experience Essential Criteria At least 2 years experience of working at surgical registrar level either in the UK or abroad (A minimum of 6 months in the UK).
Desirable Criteria Experience in Transplant Unit.
Communication and Relationship Skills Essential Criteria Emotional intelligence and empathy in dealing with cancer patients.
Potential to cope with stressful situations.
Good communication skills.
The ability to function as a member of a multi-disciplinary clinical team.
Planning and Organisation Skills Essential Criteria Ability to manage own time and work effectively, understanding of role.
Possessing a high degree of motivation and personal self-discipline.
Equality and Diversity Essential Criteria Able to demonstrate a commitment and understanding of the importance of treating all individuals with dignity and respect appropriate to their individual needs.
Other Requirements Specific to the Role Essential Criteria Empathic approach when talking to patients and their families.

Disclosure and Barring Service Check Please note if you are successful in obtaining this position and the post involves regulated activity you will be required to undertake a Disclosure & Barring Service check.
The Trust will pay for the check initially and the money will then be deducted from your salary over a three month period commencing on your first month's payment.
The current price of a check is £38 for an enhanced and £18 for a standard check.
