The successful applicant's main clinical role in theEmergency Department is to provide clinical work at middle grade level in the department and to supervise members of the junior medical staff on a continuous basis (as outlined in the job plan).
Main duties of the job Clinical Responsibilities oPerform duties at the middle grade level in the Emergency Department, managing the initial assessment and treatment of acutely ill and injured patients across a wide spectrum of presentations.oProvide clinical advice and support to junior medical staff and trainee nurse practitioners, ensuring high standards of patient care.oParticipate as a key member of the Trauma Team and fulfil the role of nominated Resuscitation or Paediatric doctor of the day, as scheduled.oEngage in the management of diverse cases, including life-threatening medical and vascular emergencies, limb-threatening injuries, and the complex needs of elderly collaboratively with other departments such as the Acute Medical Unit, Ambulatory Care Unit, and Intensive Care to ensure comprehensive patient management.

Job description Job responsibilities Non-Clinical Responsibilities The post-holder will be afforded protected time to pursue an area of special interest, allowing them to cultivate expertise in one of the following fields:Paediatric Emergency Medicine (PEM)Develop skills in managing paediatric emergencies and work closely with both the PEM and paediatric teams to optimise patient pathways.Participate in PEM research through PERUKI trials, our department has recently taken part in FORCE, CRAFFT and PIC Bone.Provide educational activities at postgraduate and undergraduate level, including multidisciplinary simulation-based education, working closely with the trust simulation lead.Opportunity to complete a postgraduate diploma in paediatric emergency post is suitable for paediatric and emergency medicine higher specialist trainees' wishing to specialise in PEM and provides valuable experience before applying to subspecialty training in PEM.Simulation and TeachingParticipate in departmental teaching and educational initiatives, including in-situ simulation training, mentoring junior staff, and delivering educational sessions.Opportunities to develop simulation-based education within ED and the wider trust working closely with the departmental and trust simulation leads.Opportunity to undertake a postgraduate diploma in educationManagement & LeadershipLead & participate in quality improvement projects and quality & safety initiatives within the Emergency Department, working closely with the QI lead.Participate in meetings relating to Quality & Safety and Risk management.Opportunity to undertake training in patient safety and quality improvement including support to complete a PG certificate if (Responsive Emergency Assessment & Community Team)Working closely with medical and nursing colleagues within Palliative and Emergency Medicine to identify and support patients presenting to ED with unmet palliative care needs.

Applications from post CCT trainees will also be considered.
The MSK Fellow will contribute to the Emergency Department middle grade rota for 50% of their contracted time.
The other 50% of the time will be spent in various MSK/Sports Medicine MSK and Sports and Exercise Medicine Fellow will be encouraged to learn about musculoskeletal medicine and apply it to their practice within the ED.
Opportunities will be available to work in MSK clinics along with gaining MSK Radiological and Orthopaedic experience.
There may also be opportunity to shadow a doctor working within a sporting environment along with gaining experience of immediate care at sporting post holder will be encouraged to gain a qualification in immediate care in sport and time will be allocated for this.
The post holder will also be supported if they wish to undertake a post-graduate diploma/masters in sports medicine, again time will be allocated for this.
