Job overview Senior Specialist Biomedical Scientist – Blood Transfusion There are two fixed term positions available.Royal London Hospital - 6 Months Contract Homerton Hospital - 3 Months Contract An exciting Acting Up/Secondment opportunity has arisen within the NHS East and South East London Pathology Partnership's (ESEL) Blood Transfusion Department at the Homerton Site.The post holder is responsible to the Operational Lead of the site and is required to carry out/supervise technical and scientific work in the Blood Transfusion section, predominantly on night shifts, and will take direction from supporting Operational Leads in transforming the delivery of services.They will practice as a HCPC registered Senior Biomedical Scientist providing a patient focused, cost effective and efficient service.
Main duties of the job Duties will include the management of Biomedical Scientists (BMS), Associate Practitioners(AP) and Medical Laboratory Assistants (MLA) within the section involving the training and supervision of unqualified staff, whilst taking charge of the day-to-day operations of the section within the laboratory.
The successful candidate will be primarily based at The Royal London Hospital site (RLH) but may be expected to cover and support other ESEL sites depending on service demand.
The department utilises Winpath LIMS, Sysmex equipment in Haematology and Coagulation across all sites, and for Blood Transfusion, Bio-Rad and Grifols analysers are used.We invite applications from enthusiastic candidates who have completed a relevant MSc or IBMS Special Examination (Fellowship) and who are interested in opportunities for progression and development within our organisation.
Working for our organisation The NHS East and South East London Pathology Partnership is an arms-length organisation providing pathology services to Barts Health NHS Trust, Homerton University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust.
The Pathology Partnership is hosted by Barts Health.The Pathology Partnership is based on well-established models for pathology networks, with the Royal London Hospital becoming the main hub laboratory for the network and Essential Service Laboratories (ESL) as a minimum at all other Hospital sites.
Pathology is made up of the following services - Blood Sciences including Haematology, Blood Transfusion and Biochemistry; Infectious Diseases including Microbiology and Virology; Cellular Pathology including Histopathology, non-gynae Cytology and mortuary services; Immunology; Cytogenetics and Molecular Haematology; Immunophenotyping; Clinical Transplantation and Retinoblastoma.
The 2020/21 total operating costs across the Partnership were c. £126m per annum with a workforce establishment of circa.
