Position: ASD Specialist Teaching Assistant Location: Secondary Schools in Bury, Greater Manchester Hours: Full-Time, Monday to Friday Start Date: Immediate   Cover People UK is recruiting a dedicated and experienced ASD Specialist Teaching Assistant for full-time placements in secondary schools across Bury.
In this impactful role, you'll support students on the autism spectrum, helping them achieve their academic and personal development goals in a structured, inclusive environment.
This role is perfect for someone who understands the unique needs of ASD students and is passionate about making a real difference in their education.
  Key Responsibilities: Individualized Student Support: Provide one-on-one assistance to ASD students, helping them engage with lessons and assignments.
Utilize strategies and resources tailored to each student's individual learning style and needs.
Offer support that enhances focus, minimizes distractions, and encourages participation.
Classroom & Curriculum Adaptation: Collaborate with teachers to adapt lesson plans and activities, making content accessible for ASD students.
Implement visual aids, sensory tools, and communication supports to enhance learning.
Assist students with transitions between activities or classrooms, reducing potential stressors.
Emotional & Social Guidance: Create a welcoming and supportive classroom atmosphere that promotes trust, confidence, and independence.
Support ASD students in social situations, fostering positive interactions with peers and staff.
Help students develop coping strategies for anxiety or sensory sensitivities commonly associated with ASD.
Collaboration & Communication: Work closely with SENCOs (Special Educational Needs Coordinators), teachers, and support staff to ensure each student's learning plan is comprehensive and effective.
Provide regular feedback on student progress, behavior, and areas for development.
Participate in meetings and training sessions to stay updated on best practices in ASD support.
  Essential Requirements: Education: Bachelor's degree in any field; additional training in SEN (Special Educational Needs) or ASD support is advantageous.
Experience: Prior experience working with ASD students or similar SEN roles within an educational setting is highly preferred.
DBS Check: Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to apply for one.
Skills: Strong communication skills to engage students and collaborate with staff.
High levels of patience, empathy, and adaptability.
Ability to handle challenging behaviors and create a calm, structured environment.
