POSITION: SEN Coordinator - SENCo QUALIFICATIONS: National Award for SENCo& Teaching Qualification EXPERIENCE: QTS (UK) experience of being a SENCO within a school setting experience of Secondary SCHOOL: New & Expanding Mainstream Secondary School aged 11-18 LOCATION : Lewisham TRANSPORT: Free Staff Parking and bus links CONTRACT: Permanent Contract MPS Experience and skill set required SENCO: Teaching Qualification UK QTS National SENCo Award Additional postgraduate certificate qualifications in areas of SEN (desirable) National Award for SEN Coordination (desirable) Experience of being a SENCO within a school setting.
Experience of meeting the needs of students with SEN Experience of the secondary school curriculum Knowledge of the SEN and Disability Code of Practice (DfE/ DoH, 2015).
An understanding of the Annual Review and statutory assessment processes.
A good knowledge of how to set meaningful end of Key Stage SEN outcomes and plan effective provision to enable all students with SEN to make good progress.
A knowledge of a range of specialist SEN interventions and strategies that can be used to support students with SEN. An understanding of how literacy, numeracy, RSE and personal development and ICT can be used to support teaching.
Specialist knowledge of an area of SEN.
Knowledge and ability to use a range of specialist assessment tools to assess and track progress and gaps in learning.
Be able to prepare and lead Annual Review meetings.
Be able to complete Provision Maps, and reviews/ evaluations of the impact of interventions The Role SENCO To take responsibility for the identification and monitoring/ review/ evaluation of the SEN needs within a specific year group/ year groups To regularly review the identification and placement of students with SEN on the year group SEN Register.
To ensure that appropriate information regarding the students SEN and support strategies are shared with all staff.
To set up, review and evaluate Provision Maps.
To meet with parents and the student to set up, review and evaluate SEN Support plans and Provision Plans.
To prepare Annual Review documentation and lead the Annual Review of EHCPs with students, their parents and involved professionals.
To liaise as needed with outside professionals working with students with SEN. To contribute to planning for the delivery of evidence-based and effective SEN strategies and support to meet the needs of students with SEN. To provide outstanding teaching to students with SEN and provide support and modelling to colleagues to contribute to the development of high quality inclusive teaching approaches across the school.
To undertake additional assessments of specific learning needs.
