Learning Support Assistant (LSA) – Alternative Provision Location: Bury St Edmunds Contract: Permanent, Full-Time A highly reputable and well-established group of Special Educational Needs (SEN) schools is seeking a compassionate and dedicated Learning Support Assistant (LSA) to join the team in their alternative provision setting in Bury St Edmunds.
This role offers a fantastic opportunity to support students who face barriers to learning and require a more tailored educational approach to achieve their full potential.
Key Responsibilities: Provide one-to-one and small group support for students with a range of additional needs, including social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) difficulties, autism spectrum disorder (ASD), and other learning challenges.
Assist in the delivery of individual education plans (IEPs) under the guidance of the class teacher and SENCO.
Support students in developing emotional regulation, social skills, and positive behaviors.
Adapt resources and teaching methods to meet the individual needs of each learner.
Help to maintain a positive, nurturing, and safe environment conducive to learning.
Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and other staff to implement effective interventions.
Encourage pupil independence and foster a sense of belonging within the school community.
Requirements: Previous experience working as a Learning Support Assistant (LSA), Teaching Assistant (TA), or in a similar role, ideally within an SEN or alternative provision setting.
A strong understanding of special educational needs, particularly SEMH and ASD.
Ability to build rapport with young people who may display challenging behaviors and exhibit patience, resilience, and empathy.
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
Team player, with a flexible and proactive approach to supporting students and staff.
Experience working with students who have Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) is desirable.
Relevant qualifications (e.g., CACHE Level 2 or 3 in Supporting Teaching and Learning, or equivalent) would be advantageous, but not essential for candidates with suitable experience.
