SEMH Teaching Assistant – Full-Time Position in Wilmslow Teaching Personnel is seeking a compassionate and skilled SEMH Teaching Assistant to support an Ofsted-rated "Good" secondary school in Wilmslow .
This full-time position begins in December and runs through the academic year, with the potential to become permanent based on performance.
Weekly pay is between £419.25 and £500 .
Role Overview: As an SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) Teaching Assistant, you will support students who face challenges related to social and emotional well-being, providing them with tools, encouragement, and tailored assistance.
This role requires a dedicated professional ready to engage with students in a meaningful way, helping them to thrive academically and socially in a supportive school environment.
Key Responsibilities: One-to-One and Small Group Support : Work closely with students requiring additional social, emotional, and behavioral guidance, assisting them to engage positively within and outside the classroom.
Classroom Assistance : Support classroom activities by helping students understand and engage with the curriculum, and adapt teaching materials to meet their unique needs when necessary.
Behavior Management : Use de-escalation and positive reinforcement strategies to manage challenging behaviors, helping students develop self-regulation and interpersonal skills.
Mentoring and Emotional Support : Build trusting relationships with students, serving as a mentor and providing a safe space for them to express themselves, working on problem-solving and resilience.
Progress Monitoring : Track student progress, noting both improvements and areas for further support.
Regularly communicate with teachers and the school's pastoral team to ensure continuity in support strategies.
Goal-Oriented Planning : Collaborate on setting achievable targets for students, aiming to boost confidence, social skills, and academic engagement over time.
Developing Life Skills : Help students cultivate practical life skills, including coping strategies, self-management, and effective communication, which contribute to their overall personal development.
Assist with Transitions : Offer additional support during class changes, meal times, and other transitions to ensure that students feel supported throughout the school day.
Creating a Positive Environment : Foster a school atmosphere that celebrates inclusivity, respect, and the recognition of individual achievements.
Ideal Candidate Profile: Experience with SEMH : Previous experience working with students with SEMH needs is advantageous, though applicants with backgrounds in support work, mental health, or behavioral assistance are encouraged to apply.
Strong Interpersonal Skills : Able to build rapport with students and establish trusted relationships, demonstrating empathy, patience, and approachability.
Resilience and Adaptability : Calm and composed when managing challenging situations, ready to adapt strategies to meet the evolving needs of each student.
