Role Overview: Job Title: SEMH Teaching Assistant Location: Newport Job Type: Full-Time Start Date: 06/01/2025 Schedule: Monday to Friday (8:30am – 3:30pm) Key Responsibilities: Safeguard and ensure the welfare of children at all times.
Provide tailored 1:1 support, both in and outside the classroom.
Assist in designing and implementing personalised interventions and strategies to support emotional and academic growth.
Promote positive behaviour, self-regulation, and emotional resilience.
Collaborate with teachers, SENCOs, and staff to adapt lessons and create an inclusive, supportive learning environment.
Support children during unstructured times, such as lunch and break periods.
Encourage social interactions with peers to foster development of social skills.
Build trusting, positive relationships with students and act as a role model.
What We're Looking For: Relevant qualifications are beneficial but not essential.
Eligibility to work in the UK A clear Enhanced DBS check and EWC registration.
A driving license is preferred but not required.
Ideal Candidate Attributes: Previous experience working with SEMH or behavioural needs, ideally in an educational or care environment.
Patient, proactive, and empathetic approach to supporting students.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills to build positive relationships with students, parents, and staff.
Ability to manage challenging behaviour and know when to seek support.
