Step Teachers are working with a Secondary school in Hackney who are seeking a dedicated Social, Emotional, Mental Health (SEMH) Teaching Assistant to support the educational, social, and emotional development of students with SEMH needs, ensuring they can achieve their full potential.
As a SEMH TA you will play a crucial role in helping students overcome barriers to learning.
This is a full-time position requiring a long-term commitment. 
SEMH TA - Role: Assisting students individually or in small groups with their educational activities.Implementing and adapt educational programs to meet the needs of students with SEMH.Supporting teachers in planning and delivering lessons that cater to SEMH needs.Assisting teacher to manage student's classroom behaviour to ensure a positive learning environment.Implementing individualised behaviour support plans.Build positive relationships with students to understand their needs and challenges.Provide emotional support and encouragement to help students build self-esteem and resilience.Participate in multi-agency meetings and contribute to the development of Individual Education Plans (IEPs).Work closely with teachers, SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator), and other support staff.Liaise with external agencies (e.g., educational psychologists, social services) to support students' SEMH needs.Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and professional development opportunities.SEMH TA -Requirements: Relevant qualifications in education or child development (e.g., CACHE Level 2/3 in Supporting Teaching and Learning).Experience working with children with SEMH needs, preferably in an educational setting.Understanding of SEMH challenges and strategies to support students.Additional training or qualifications in SEMH (e.g., courses in mental health first aid, behaviour management).Experience in using specific interventions and programs (e.g., THRIVE, Boxall Profile).Why Step Teachers?
