Science Coordinators support the Associate Science Director and take a leading role in contributing to UKCEH and Science Area management, operations and strategic delivery via planning and management of information, people, and activities.
Additionally, you will have responsibility to lead and deliver specific corporate tasks and activities ensuring their effective and timely delivery.Working at UKCEH is rewarding and you will join our near 100 strong team of talented individuals in SAIE, working at the interface between the land surface and atmosphere.
Bringing together expertise on soils, vegetation and state of the art monitoring, this science area provides insights into this interface.
The research in this area informs advice on measures and progress in relation to air quality, achieving Net Zero ambitions, and land management.You'll also be part of a Science Coordination network across all science areas in UKCEH, delivering an innovative and consistent approach to our management of Science Areas and delivery of activities.

There is a strong requirement to collaborate and communicate within and across teams in UKCEH and with external stakeholders at all levels of the business.
Your main responsibilities will include: Proactively coordinating and managing the operations of the SAIE Science Area in collaboration with the Science Area Coordinator.
Provide insights, knowledge, and information to support the Science Area and the Associate Science Director (ASD).Significant contributions to business planning and reporting, and lead on reporting against strategic KPIs and OKRs relevant to the Science Area or ASD.
Utilising information from corporate systems to prepare reports, briefings, and analyses to inform decision-making and priorities.Taking responsibility for specific delegated corporate tasks and ensure their effective delivery, working with the relevant ASD and/or the Science Directorate Business Manager to meet strategic and organisational needs.Understanding the portfolio of science within SAIE, its alignment with UKCEH's science and strategy, and its position within the wider external landscape.
Stay informed about relevant funders and funding sources, stakeholder and partnership portfolios, and keep up-to-date with developments and drivers in the broader landscape.Managing and coordinating communication within the Science Area and for relevant cross-UKCEH topics.Collaborating with scientists and the Research Development Team to stay informed about key stakeholder and partnership portfolios, delivering and contributing to strategic engagement to advance UKCEH's strategic ambitions.Line management of 1 or more staff in the Science Area support team.For the role of Science Coordinator, we're looking for somebody who has:A scientific degree, or equivalent experience, and at least 5 years' experience working in a similar role in a scientific research environment.A high-level of expertise and understanding of the wider UK/International research landscape and ability to use this knowledge for organisational benefit.Experience building and managing effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders (UK and internationally).
The ability to develop a high-level understanding of systems and processes in order to translate this into strategic reports and analyses for various audiences.Demonstrated a continuous improvement mindset.
