An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 6 Occupational Therapist to develop their skills in acute paediatrics in our team based at Bristol Royal Hospital for Children.
We are looking for an experienced and motivated Occupational Therapist to join our Band 6 Rotation at UHBW NHS Foundation Trust (CQC rated Good).
During this 12 months fixed term post, you will have the opportunity to work across the key specialities of Burns, Neurosciences & Trauma Orthopaedics (including complex major trauma).
There may also be opportunities for you to spend time with other specialities led by specialist OTs, including paediatric rheumatology, neonatal care, and rare bone disease.
Bristol Royal Hospital for Children is a specialised tertiary centre, taking the most complex referrals from both local and national centres.
We are the paediatric major trauma centre for the South West of England and host a range of specialised services.
You will work within a therapy team with a vast amount of experience with access to regular clinical supervision and a range of training opportunities.
You must be an effective team player with excellent communication and organisational skills.
Main duties of the job Band 6 Occupational Therapists are experienced clinicians having completed core rotations as a Band 5.
This Band 6 Occupational Therapy post allows an experienced OT with existing broad postgraduate knowledge and skills to further develop their expertise and develop specialised clinical skills in the area of acute and long-term paediatric conditions.
The post-holder will act as an autonomous practitioner to provide a comprehensive inpatient and outpatient Occupational Therapy service consisting of assessment, intervention, and discharge planning for a caseload of paediatric patients relevant to the rotational specialty.
To provide specialist Occupational Therapy input to children admitted to the Bristol Royal Hospital for Children, thereby ensuring that they achieve maximum rehabilitation potential and are discharged in a safe and timely fashion.
To run/assist in running the regional paediatric specialty clinics, including scar management.
To co-ordinate with local and out-of-area community and social services occupational therapy teams in order to facilitate safe discharge, obtain equipment, and ensure appropriate follow-up is in place after discharge.
To provide specialist advice to other members of the multi-disciplinary team and to provide clinical education and training to others, deputising for senior team members as required.
To provide supervision and training to Band 5 Occupational Therapists, Therapy assistants, and Students as required.

Person specification Qualifications and Training Degree or Equivalent in Occupational Therapy Registration with HCPC Evidence of relevant post-graduate continual professional development Membership of RCOT Knowledge and Experience Post-graduate experience across a range of specialities e.g.
Orthopaedics, neurology, community rehabilitation, developmental care, or burns Evidence of working within a multidisciplinary team with clear understanding of roles and expectations Evidence of hospital discharge planning and caseload prioritising Experience in prescribing specialist equipment to support safe discharge Experience of working with children and young people at junior level or above Splinting experience Experience of supervising junior staff/students Experience of service development, audit, or research Knowledge of postural management and assessment of specialised seating Skills and Abilities Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills Ability to be flexible and adaptable Sound IT skills Proven desire to work in a paediatric environment Good Team player Trustworthy Hardworking We hope that you will decide to join us and become part of this exciting journey, helping us to shape our future together.
