The post holder will be a General Practice Nurse who is potentially looking towards retirement with experience in supervising and assessing members of the nursing workforce.
They will have excellent interpersonal skills and be passionate about improving the standards for learning and developing the nursing workforce in General Practice.The successful candidate will be a GPN from the Staffordshire area who is retiring but would like to maintain professional registration (Minimum 150 hours per year NMC requirement).AimTo retain experienced General Practice Nurses within general practice in a bespoke role to support and develop the workforce in innovative ways to the benefit of multiple practices.
Main duties of the job To support North Staffordshire GP Federation (NSGPF) to develop a robust system to retain retiring nurses who have experience and knowledge to guide, support and nurture the next generation of the primary care nursing workforce.
To ensure high quality care is delivered to patients.
To target retention of experienced GPNs to support recruitment to General Practice Nursing.
The role can be developed by NSGPF requirements and national guidance and work in collaboration with the Staffordshire Training Hub and their GPN Facilitators.Job DescriptionThe post holder will work across the NSGPF across Stoke on Trent and North Staffordshire.
It will be critical that the individual links in with all practices within NSGPF The successful candidate will liaise with and report to the NSGPF Associate Director of Nursing The role will work closely with the Retire and Return Nurse Project Lead (Staffordshire Training Hub) Also liaising with partner organisations within the Integrated Care System (ICS) including but not inclusively; GPN Facilitators working for Staffordshire Training Hub and HEIs The Project Lead and the Associate Director of Nursing will provide support.Key sessional commitments include:NSGPF meetings as requested PCN meetings as requested Attendance at face-to-face Clinical Supervision.

Job description Job responsibilities Core elements of the roleTo work closely with the GPN Facilitators (STH) to support Practices within the NSGPF to recruit and supervise new GPNs into the roleTo support the growth of supervisors and assessors in General Practice Nursing and to maintain logs of their location within the NSGPF and relevant training in conjunction with the PNF in the Staffordshire Training HubTo facilitate supervisor and assessor training updates as appropriateTo plan a programme for the student nurses whilst on placementTo act as practice supervisor and/or assessor for student nurses, nurses new to General Practice, Nurse Associates and Health Care Support Workers as appropriateTo liaise with HEIs to provide placements for pre-registration student nurses within NSGPFTo develop NSGPF based student nurse placements and support with educational cluster sessionsTo maintain clinical competencies to be able to supervise and assess students and new GPNsSupporting and leading clinical supervision sessions across the NSGPF practices for the nursing workforce after appropriate training (this is a CQC requirement)To provide the role of Internal or External Cytology assessor for new sample takers across the NSGPF as appropriate and therefore will need to continue to be a current cervical smear sample takerProvide the role of assessor for Student Nursing Associates to support PracticesProvide the role of assessor for Trainee Health Care support Workers to support practicesSupport nursing teams across the NSGPF with the appraisal process if requested to do soProvide support to Lead GPNs across the NSGPF if needed, particularly around infection prevention and control and guidance leading up to CQC inspections.KEY RESPONSIBILITIESClinical LeadershipDevelop strong working relationships with the NSGPF, member Practices and key nursing leads within the NSGPF and practicesTo be a role model for new recruits into the nursing workforce in the NSGPF, supporting and nurturing ensuring appropriate levels of supervision and support to support recruitment and retention.Delivery and ImplementationWork collaboratively with the Project Lead (Staffordshire Training Hub) to ensure approaches to delivery are clinically appropriate as well as supportiveHelp resolve issues or challenges by supporting Nursing Staff and Practices in learning and development in clinical areas of practiceSupport identification of measures and indicators that require further support to grow placements for student nurses and new General Practice Nurses.Communications and EngagementBe a champion for General Practice Nursing recruitment and retentionDevelop educational cluster session for student nurses on placement within the NSGPF, liaising with other Retire and Return nurses in other areas of the Staffordshire system.
Person Specification Experience Essential Minimum of 3 years current experience in a GPN role in a Primary Care GP setting Current experience as a supervisor of students in practice Confident to work autonomously Ability to engage with learners Evidence of supervision and assessment experience Ability or willingness to undertake clinical supervision for learners as a facilitator Ability to deliver small group learning in the form of educational cluster sessions for learners Problem solving and can-do attitude Commitment to service change and continual improvement.
Desirable Experience of teaching clinical skills related to primary care and general practice in a range of settings Demonstrable leadership skills, experience of a leadership role.
Qualifications Essential Educated to degree level in relevant subject or equivalent level of experience of working at a similar level in specialist area Current registration with the Nursing & Midwifery Council Registered General Nurse Evidence of continuing Professional development Valid drivers license and access to a vehicle Up to date Supervisor and Assessor training In depth knowledge of current issues related to clinical skills in primary care Awareness of evidence based practice and the importance and impact for Primary care High level of clinical skills and practice application Ability to contribute to all levels of undergraduate and post registration teaching Excellent communication skills Ability to work well with students and staff Planning and Organisational skills Ability to work well with PCN and Practice management teams Ability to organise own workload with competing demands Computer skills (Intermediate level MS Word, Excel, Outlook and Power point or similar office software).
