Job summary The Respiratory Function department is looking to recruit a committed individual to join an expanding and friendly team as a Band 5 Respiratory Physiologist.

The role will require flexible working across Warwick Hospital and a Community Diagnostic Hub currently being built at Stratford Upon Avon Hospital.
Services currently offered include spirometry, lung volumes, gas transfer, plethysmography and reversibility testing, mannitol challenge testing, hypoxic challenge testing, muscle studies, CPET, overnight SpO2, multi-channel sleep study issue & reporting.
We are looking for a qualified Clinical Respiratory Physiologist with relevant experience at that level and have their ARTP qualification either part I and Part II or Practitioners qualification.
However, it would also be a great opportunity for someone who has recently qualified.
Main duties of the job A Respiratory Physiologist is required to work within a small team to perform, assess and report on a wide range of respiratory procedures, working autonomously within local and national guidelines whilst adhering to best professional practice.

Job description Job responsibilities Clinical / Technical Duties To deliver a wide range of respiratory investigations and to accurately perform the following tests: Flow volume loops, gas transfer, lung volume, reversibility testing, pulse oximetry, respiratory mouth pressures, muscle studies, overnight-oximetry, hypoxic challenge and limited channel sleep studies.
Ensure that calibration, maintenance and quality assurance procedures are carried out on all diagnostic equipment.
Recognise technical/equipment faults and take appropriate action to rectify them.
Communicate complex instructions and clinical information effectively to patients and to relatives to ensure cooperation and compliance and to obtain accurate technical and clinical data.
This may be when the patient shows poor understanding ( with language barriers, hearing and/or visual impairment, impaired mental state), when there may be some hostility ( confused and aggressive patients) or when persuasive and motivational skills may be required with patients reluctant to undergo investigations.
Responsibilities Plan and organise own daily work schedule unsupervised, and respond to urgent requests appropriately.
After an initial assessment/training period the candidate will be expected to work unsupervised but will be able to refer to more senior staff members when issues arise that they require help and guidance with.
Produce accurate and comprehensive technical reports on the range of tests performed.
Participate in ongoing staff training and education.
Assist with the training of other staff members as required.
Assist with stock control of consumables.
Liaise with all respiratory team members, including ancillary services to help maintain a cohesive respiratory service.
To support all areas of the department as required to maintain service levels.
General Work as part of a team supporting patient, colleagues and other professionals in the delivery of high quality patient care.
Work in accordance with clinical governance, best evidence based practice and national guidelines.
Be aware of the risks involved and the safe processes required with the movement and handling of patients and equipment.
Store / retrieve information using the relevant software whilst retaining patient confidentiality.
Undertake departmental clerical duties as required.
Be prepared to participate in flexible shift patterns to accommodate changing trends in health care provision.
Be aware of current clinical developments and be responsible for personal continued professional development.
Undertake any other duties commensurate with the grade, as a result of changing technology, clinical practices or expansion of services, as designated by the manger.
Each member of staff will have a main base, but will be expected to move between sites at Warwick Hospital and Stratford Hospital, as required to ensure adequate clinical cover at both sites.
Person Specification Qualifications Essential Clinical Physiology Degree or equivalent Science Degree Evidence of continuous professional development Eligible for RCCP registration Desirable ARTP Professional exam RCCP registration Experience Essential Experience in diagnostic testing within a respiratory department Desirable Experienced in a wide range of diagnostic investigations/tests Experienced in working unsupervised and acting on own initiative Skills Essential Ability to communicate effectively to hostile or emotional patients Awareness of confidentiality and handling of clinical information Desirable Ability to work independently Experience in demonstrating tests to other staff members Personal Qualities Essential Able to work as a team member Caring, sympathetic and tolerant Desirable Confident at liaising with medical, technical and nursing staff Other Job requirements Essential Awareness of issues regarding patient confidentiality and handling clinical information Able to prioritise busy schedules The ability to travel independently between hospital sites Desirable Car driver with access to a car
