A bit about the role Hillcrest is a 5 bedded residential Unit which accommodates children and young people who need to be looked after and also offers short breaks for children with additional needs on a bespoke basis.
You will be part of a team, working to a rota to meet the needs of all the children in our care.
The children need consistent, caring, empathetic staff who will support them to develop to their full potential.
An understanding of trauma and attachment would be beneficial.
Each child will have an individualised child's plan with set outcomes which you will work towards.
Relating to children and young people who may have experienced trauma is essential.
As a casual Residential Worker you'll be supporting our young people between the ages 8 and 18 to help them reach their full potential and achieving new outcomes.
You'll create a stimulating and engaging environment whilst ensuring safety at all times.
You'll plan and support young people in taking part in activities based at the service as well as out in the community in order to develop their social and life skills.
You'll also provide support with day to day activities, attend to any emotional, social or personal care and the administration of medication will be included in your role.
As we operate 24 hours/ 365 days a year shifts will be a mix of day shifts, back shifts, sleepovers and waking nights.
Relevant training for this post will be provided within the organisation.
How you'll help to create brighter futures Relationship building and providing general support for our children and young people, including: personal care; Care planning; writing risk assessments and cooking meals with and for the household.
Enabling children to attend education and supporting them to have positive contact with their families.
Encouraging and supporting young people to participate in community activities.
Attending meetings on behalf of our children and young people.
Ensuring paperwork is kept up to date, including writing reports, child's plans and risk assessments .
Planning activities for children and young people and including them in any decision making.
Let's talk about you SVQ 3 and/or HNC in Social Care or the equivalent.
Experience of working in a residential care service.
An understanding of the issues and barriers vulnerable, traumatised children and young people may face.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
Good IT skills.
Flexibility to be able to work shifts as part of a rota.
A willingness to attend training for continuous development.
The willingness to register with the SSSC.
