Closing Date: 04 December 2024 The Role Do you have an interest in the ageing population and in helping them remain as independent as possible We are looking for a dynamic individual with a robust background in statistics evidenced by a strong publication record.
Ideal candidates should have proven track record of analysing data both cross-sectionally and longitudinally (evidenced by publications).
As a member of the team, you will analyse large complex datasets using advanced quantitative methods to answer policy and clinically relevant questions.
You will be experienced in biostatistics/epidemiology and will be able to apply longitudinal/panel data methodology.
Ideally you will be experienced in the manipulation and management of such datasets, and in the application of advanced methods.
In addition, you will have experience of writing for a range of audiences to promote knowledge exchange and some understanding of and commitment to health research.
Candidates should have a post-graduate qualification in statistics (masters level as minimum) AND/OR a professional qualification (i.e.
CStat) AND/OR relevant experience in epidemiological analyses.
A successful candidate will join us at the Population Health Sciences Institute at Newcastle University and collaborate with colleagues of international standing.

Prepare data for analysis.
Conduct statistical analyses, as applied to the longitudinal health data.
Assessment of the quality and appropriateness of datasets for analysis.
Liaising with other researchers working on related data.
Provide guidance, supervision and support to less experienced statisticians.
Collaborate with project groups and clinicians to advise and implement statistical aspects of projects at the planning stage and to advise/contribute to the statistical aspects of applications for funding and/or regulatory approval where necessary.
Liaise with chief investigators and project managers to undertake statistical analysis and prepare reports for project committees and where necessary present these reports.
Work independently and collaboratively in developing statistical analysis plans.
Maintain a keen interest in research developments in statistics and to share knowledge and experience with colleagues to inform research and introduce innovative methods of obtaining and analyzing data.
Meet project deadlines and milestones and manage the statistical contributions to the research project appropriately.
Travel to Edinburgh to meet project needs.
Assist in the co-ordination of components of the research programme, including: Facilitating liaison between the members of the research team to ensure that areas of responsibility are defined and agreed.
Coordinating production of reports and associated outputs.
Acting as the first point of contact for internal inquiries about statistical/epidemiological aspects of relevant projects.
Write up results for publication.
Undertake rapid literature reviews to support the writing of research papers and funding proposals.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience Essential Experience of accessing, managing, and interpreting person level data sets Experience of longitudinal analytical techniques to model repeated observations over time.
Knowledge of one or more statistical analysis packages (STATA, SPSS, R).
Skills in critical appraisal, data analysis, statistics, and interpretation.

Evidence of completed research and publications in peer-reviewed journals.
Experience of applying longitudinal statistical methods to studies of health and ageing.
Desirable Evidence of contributing to successful applications for national/international peer reviewed research funding Ability and willingness to travel locally, within UK and internationally for meetings and conferences Qualifications A master's in medical statistics or a closely related highly quantitative subject or equivalent professional qualification e.g.
Chartered Statistician.
Knowledge and skill will be assessed at interview.
