About the role Applications are invited for two research assistants to join the Digital Health Hub for AMR, for six posts are available for 6 months each.The positions are based at the London Centre for Nanotechnology (LCN) UCL and funded by the EPSRC Digital Health Hub for Antimicrobial Resistance.
Antibiotics underpin modern medicine but the alarming rise in drug resistance challenges these advances.
The Hub aims to harness digital technologies to transform antimicrobial resistance surveillance and stewardship from a one-health approach, spanning humans, animals and the environment.
The Hub brings together researchers from UCL, the UK Health Security Agency, Bangor University, Centre for Ecology and Hydrology, Oxford, Sheffield and Leeds universities, as well as many NHS, industry, charity and government partners.The main purpose of the job is to work on EPSRC Digital Health Hub for AMR Grand Challenge ; Wastewater-based epidemiology for AMR – linking community and hospital AMR data with the team at Bangor University and with Arup.
The aim is to develop a data dashboard to visualise AMR wastewater data from Wales, leveraging a major national programme led by Jones tracking antimicrobial resistant genes using high throughput qPCR across 47 sites covering 80% of the population and 7 major hospitals.
Working in partnership with ARUP, the aim is to co-develop the dashboard with end users, the Welsh Government and Public Health Wales via an AGILE iterative approach, and an API interface to facilitate data sharing.
We will also pilot a connected sensor for near-source testing and sentinel surveillance (E. Coli as an exemplar) based on a low-cost rapid ultra-sensitive nanodiamonds1 , which have been shown to be ,-fold more sensitive than gold nanoparticles in a model assay, and (novel) video signal processing methods.
About you The exciting positions will require that candidate to form good written skills, have good interpersonal skills, manage conflicting deadlines and has strong IT skills.
Applicants should have an undergraduate qualification in chemistry or engineering.
In addition they should have experience with risk assessments, contribution to key performance indicators, manage their own workload, ability to multi-task and able to contribute to high impact research.
They should have the ability to contribute to high impact publications and also have experience with research grants.
They must be able to multi-task and organise own work, contribute to research projects and also write risk assessments.
