An exciting opportunity has arisen within the BioResource team for a Research Assistant to support the provision of biomaterial services to the Sanger scientific community.
The BioResource team manages the import, storage and distribution of the Wellcome Sanger Institute's biological resources.
We provide high-quality, efficient and robust services to the Institute's scientific teams to enable them to deliver their world-leading science.
About the Role: You will have a varied workload, with opportunities to be involved in many different projects and aspects of the team's work.
You will be crucial to providing BioResource services including receiving, storing and distributing biological resources in line with defined procedures.
You will update BioResource systems to ensure biological resource records are accurate.
You will be expected to respond to service requests in a timely and professional manner.
You will work closely with other BioResource team members to contribute to the development and implementation of processes and procedures.
You will have opportunities to learn valuable skills relating to the legal regulations surrounding the use and shipping of biological material, including IATA certification.
You will contribute to the huge cost and energy-saving Legacy project by reducing the burden of historical samples that are no longer useful for Sanger.
You will collaborate with colleagues from across campus.
You will be supported and encouraged to seek out developmental opportunities through departmental and Institute-wide initiatives.
The role has a mix of lab and office-based activities and there is scope for some hybrid working following successful completion of training and subject to project demands.
About You: Essential Skills Degree in Biological Sciences or proven practical laboratory experience Previous experience of service provision Knowledge of laboratory health and safety regulations Good IT skills (can operate systems accurately and follow procedures) Ability to maintain accurate and detailed records Good housekeeping practices Good communication skills and willingness to share information Proven ability to be able to work independently, organise and schedule your own work Experience in collaborating with others and effectively working in teams Good attention to detail, including throughout repetitive processes Desirable Skills Experience in updating systems Experience working with data and data transformation Experience working in a regulated environment Additional information Applications: Please include a cover letter along with your CV.
