Reliability Engineer

Details of the offer

About us When a five-year-old boy was blinded after a regular eye exam failed to spot a retinal detachment, his father made it his life's work to help eye care professionals by revolutionising retinal imaging.
Optos was founded by Douglas Anderson in 1992 with the goal to make a patient-friendly device to quickly capture the entire retina.
The experience of Douglas Anderson is a thread that runs through the company to this day and has resulted in our products being used in nearly 20,000 locations globally.
Optomap shows up to 82% (200°) of the retina in a single-capture, offering unrivalled clarity and Optos is proud to be recognised as the leader in this field.
To stay at the forefront of technology and offer the very best solutions to our customers, we are at the beginning of an exciting journey that will expand our product offering, cement our position as the leaders in this field and see us expand our already fantastic team.
Over the last 12 months we have made great progress in developing a new generation of products that will use cutting-edge technologies to drive our mission to transform eye care and are now looking for a Reliability Engineer to continue the momentum, bringing your experience and ideas with you.
You and the role We would love it if you came from a medical devices, automotive or defence/aerospace background as these industries translate well to what we do and how we work.
This role would suit a detail-orientated person who can develop comprehensive reliability test plans suitable for complex ophthalmic systems.
You will be able to identify critical reliability metrics and define accelerated life testing (ALT) protocols to ensure the continued longevity and durability of our products.
You will be adept at conducting FMEA along with designing and executing HALT/HASS tests to identify design weaknesses that could impact reliability.
You should be comfortable collaborating with engineering teams to implement corrective actions and design improvements.
Day-to-day you will also be developing reliability demonstration tests and be able to analyse the data created by such tests to inform your decision-making.
The ideal candidate will have experience of modelling techniques such as Weibull analysis, reliability block diagrams and Monte Carlo simulations as well as implementing ESS techniques and investigating reliability-related failures encountered during testing.
All of the above feeds into our cross-functional teams so we need someone who is a confident communicator, able to push back when necessary and able to relay technical information clearly and concisely.
Your reliability reports will be communicated to various stakeholders and used to provide guidance on reliability improvement strategies.
From an educational perspective, you will have a Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical or Optical Engineering or related field.
Even better would be a Masters degree.
Above all, you will have a strong background in reliability engineering, system engineering, and multidisciplinary integration.
What else?
You need to be able to demonstrate familiarity with reliability standards and regulations (e.g.
MIL-HDBK-217F and Telcordia SR-332).
We would love to see experience with industry standards and regulations related to medical devices (e.g., FDA regulations, IEC 60601) or automotive products (e.g., ISO 26262, AEC-Q100).
Life at Optos is fast-paced and everyone tends to chip in.
We have an experienced team who are comfortable working across various disciplines and teams so you'll be a good fit for us if you don't want to 'stay in your lane' What we offer Optos offers competitive basic salaries along with bonus and a host of benefits including enhanced holidays, flexible working, hybrid working and contributory pension.
We have a range of extras that all go towards making our colleagues feel valued, respected and well looked after.
In summary we are looking for… 5 years of experience in reliability engineering, test development or validation, preferably in the medical device or automotive industry Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical Engineering or Optical Engineering or related field Strong background in reliability engineering principles, methodologies, and tools (HALT/HASS, ALT, RDT, ESS, Weibull) Analytical, systematic and pro-active Pragmatic and confident communicator who can influence others What next?
We believe the key to unlocking our potential is to recruit driven, innovative, and collaborative people.
These are people who embrace challenges, diversity and change and who are looking for unlimited opportunities – people who believe that the most exciting thing about Optos is what we are going to do next.
You can apply for this role directly via our website or contact our recruitment partner India Smith (ismithoptos.com) for an informal discussion.
