Media Operations is one of two main departments within the Technology & Media Operations Group.
Media?Operations is at the heart of teams delivering incredible content across all our platforms for all audiences.
Comprising around nine hundred people, it manages the craft and production operations for the BBC's news, radio, and sport services across London, Salford, and Birmingham - capturing, editing, and producing our output 24x7 for TV, radio, and online.
Our team are experts in their field with exceptional technical, operational and production creativity at their heart.
Working closely together with our news, sport and content colleagues, we co-create all content reaching millions of people across the UK and the World daily.
The team is also responsible for the management of production services, stores, and some audio, fleet vehicles and OB bases in England.
Rigger Supervisors attend a variety of events and shows to assist in the safe and legal loading of vehicles and trailers with equipment, cables and other associated plant, with due care and regard for these items.
They are responsible for the routine weighing and checking of vehicles and trailers before driving and ensuring that the vehicle and load does not contravene any safety or legal requirement; promptly reporting defects.
Main Responsibilities• Assist in the safe and legal loading of vehicles and trailers with equipment, cables and other associated plant, with due care and regard for these items.• Responsible for the routine weighing and checking of vehicles and trailers before driving and ensuring that the vehicle and load does not contravene any safety or legal requirement; promptly reporting defects.
• Drive vehicles to and from locations, park and stabilise vehicles either under direction or to a pre-determined plan and interconnect OB vehicles.• Carry portable equipment on site either under direction or to a pre-determined plan.• Undertake the deployment, rigging, care and testing of cables and infrastructure, technical equipment and ancillary plant, as directed or to a pre-determined plan.• Undertake the safe erection of suitable supporting structures such as simple scaffold towers and bridges so as to support cables and equipment.• Supervise ad hoc teams of Rigger Drivers, freelance crews etc.

• Operate power generators including the checking of voltage and frequency and ensure that fuel and water supplies are maintained.• Assist in the assembly and operation of all radio OB equipment and carry portable sound equipment, including microphones, radio microphones and radio backpacks.
• Rig and operate telephones, radio talkback and similar communications systems whether for inclusion in the programme or for production support activity.• Assist in the placement of microphones as required and to the direction of operational staff.• Responsible for seeing reported faults and maintenance issues are reported to the appropriate maintenance area.• Responsible for the presentation of vehicles, inside and out, recommending to the Resource Manager where repairs or refurbishment are required to the fabric of the vehicle.• Ensure technical vehicles are stocked appropriately for the work they undertake, overseeing standard loads and stock.
Are you the right candidate?Essential • Currently licensed and experienced in the driving of Cat C+E LGV (Class I HGV).
• Current Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) and a Driver Qualification Card.
• A thorough working knowledge of all relevant transport legislation and requirements.
• A constructive and supportive attitude towards the aims of programme makers.
• Flexibility to undertake shifts as per the demands of the role • Interpersonal and communication skills to build and sustain working relationships within craft, resource and production areas.
• Ability to fit in quickly to a team with an appreciation of the pressures involved in programme making and events.
• Ability to use initiative and to work flexibly under pressure across a broad range of programmes and events.
• Experience of heavy lifting and handling.
