If so, Lincolnshire County Council has the role for you!An exciting opportunity has arisen for a committed individual to join Children's Services as a Qualified Habilitation Specialist.
Main duties of the job We are looking to appoint a qualified and experienced Habilitation Specialist to work with young people with a vision impairment, including those with additional needs, across the county, promoting and developing independent travel and life skills and preparing them for adulthood.A thorough understanding of the impact of vision impairment is essential, along with high expectations of children and young people with vision impairment.
You will work closely with families and settings, and work will be carried out in a range of environments, including homes, education settings and the wider community.
You will work with very young children through to teenagers and potentially adults.This is a part time position, hours and flexible working to be discussed at interview.You will have experience in assessing mobility and habilitation needs, deliveringt eaching and training programmes and monitoring progress.
You will have the skills to further develop mobility and habilitation provision for CYP with vision impairment across the county.The position sits within the Sensory Education Support Team and you will work in collaboration with teachers for children and young people with a vision impairment and multi-sensory impaired children and young people in homes, early years settings and schools.

Job description Job responsibilities To provide support of high quality for Children and Young People with any form of learning difficulty or disability to enable them to achieve the greatest degree of independence in living, and in mobility and travel.To work with all babies, children and young people who are blind or who have significant visual difficulties which will inhibit their ability to travel and live independently.Provide programmes of individual training and support to enable these children and young people to experience the highest degree of autonomy and independent living, to become confident with their peers, and to become safe.Offer training and support to families, school staff and the childs peers, helping them to learn more about the mobility and independent living problems experienced by a visually impaired child, and strategies to help alleviate these difficulties.
Person Specification Experience Essential Experience of assessing the habilitation of Children and Young People, devising programmes of habilitation training and planning, implementation and evaluation of such programmes.
Experience of advising on strategies, such as personal care and homes skills which facilitates independence in daily living.
Desirable Experience of working from a range of environments, including homes, educational and public settings in the provision of Habilitation services.
Experience of undertaking environmental audits.
Knowledge and Skills Essential Demonstrates an ability to provide a range of training, from basic skills to enable independance in indoor and campus environments, to cane training and safety skills.
Demonstrates an ability to develop and provide age appropriate ongoing training which teaches children and young people with a visual impairment, to move safely and efficiently in their home, school and work, and community settings, and as independently as possible.
Qualifications Essential Hold a specialist Graduate Diploma in Habilitation and Disabilities of Sight (Children and Young People) or equivalent qualification which specifically meets all the learning outcomes arising from the Quality Standards Delivery of Habilitation Training (Mobility and Independent Living Skills) for Children and Young People with Visual Impairment (2011): Qualification Participant Learning Outcomes
