Principal Psychologist Salary: £70,000 Location: HMP Millsike Overview: We're seeking a skilled and compassionate Principal Psychologist to lead the psychology team at HMP Millsike, an innovative, rehabilitative prison facility dedicated to restoring hope and empowering prisoners to reintegrate into society successfully.
This role offers the opportunity to play a pivotal part in creating a supportive, transformative environment that fosters growth and change.
The Principal Psychologist will provide expert leadership, oversee psychological services, and collaborate with senior management to drive a rehabilitative culture within the prison.
Key Responsibilities: - Leadership: Lead and manage a psychology team, ensuring high standards of service delivery that align with legal, ethical, and contractual guidelines.
- Strategic Development: Develop and implement psychological services in line with the prison's rehabilitation-focused mission and objectives.
- Risk Management: Ensure ethical risk assessments, behaviour management plans, and treatment align with best practices and are tailored to the prison population.
- Rehabilitative Culture: Foster a supportive, safe, and positive environment that encourages prisoners' personal growth and prepares them for successful reintegration into society.
- Programme Consultation: Consult on Accredited Offending Behaviour Programmes, focusing on treatment quality without direct programme management.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Act as a key liaison with HMPPS and external stakeholders to strengthen the prison's rehabilitative strategy.
Person Specification: - Registered Practitioner Psychologist with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
- Chartered Psychologist, ideally with two years' registration and Associate Fellowship of the British Psychological Society (BPS).
- Previous managerial experience in a custodial or secure environment.
- Proven track record in supervising teams, supporting trainees, and working collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.
- Expertise in risk assessment, behaviour change, and the Parole Board system.
- Training in Incident Management and Negotiation Advisory (desirable).
