We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate PMLD Teaching Assistant to join our supportive and dynamic team at a school in Walsall.
This is an exciting opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of students with complex needs, helping them achieve their potential and promoting their well-being in a nurturing educational environment.
Key Responsibilities: Support Learning: Assist students with profound and multiple learning disabilities to access the curriculum and engage in educational activities.
Personal Care: Provide assistance with basic care needs such as feeding, dressing, toileting, and mobility, ensuring the safety and dignity of all students.
Promote Independence: Encourage students to develop independence and life skills, offering support in a variety of daily tasks and activities.
Emotional and Behavioural Support: Provide emotional support, helping students feel secure and confident in their learning environment.
Collaboration: Work closely with teachers, therapists, and external professionals to implement individual education plans (IEPs) and ensure a holistic approach to support.
Monitoring Progress: Observe and document students' progress, providing regular feedback to the teaching team and contributing to reports on student achievements.
Essential Skills & Qualities: Empathy and Patience: A caring and understanding approach to supporting students with complex needs.
Excellent Communication: Ability to use alternative communication methods such as Makaton, PECS, or communication boards to support students in expressing themselves.
Physical Stamina: Ability to assist students with mobility and personal care tasks as required.
Team Player: Collaborative attitude and ability to work well with colleagues, teachers, and external professionals.
Adaptability: Flexibility to meet the varying needs of students and adjust support strategies as necessary.
Qualifications & Experience: Minimum of GCSEs in English and Maths (Grade C or above).
NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Supporting Teaching and Learning (or equivalent) is desirable.
Previous experience working with students with special educational needs, particularly those with profound and multiple learning disabilities, is an advantage.
