Job Description About Our Team: Our water process engineers examine the influent for sewage treatment plants and define the appropriate treatment process against the required effluent consents.
Or look at the raw water quality data and determine the clean water treatment steps needed.
They work on all aspects of the design lifecycle from optioneering and feasibility to detailed design.
They ensure designs meet the required performance also identify the most sustainable treatment method that can be used.
They develop process sizing calculations and mass balances to define all items of equipment, whilst ensuring that they comply with the relevant client and industry standards.
They also initiate control philosophies to define how a plant will operate, before collaborating with the other designers.
The successful applicants will work closely with other design disciplines and stakeholders, to ensure that the design elements interface correctly.
An example project is Spernal STW.
AECOM was asked to provide the outline design for a wastewater treatment works by a water company as part of an upgrade to the works and changes to the consent.
This involved initially looking at the treatment required including new aerations lanes and final settlement tanks.
Options for reducing footprint by increasing the depth of the plant were reviewed in line with increases to blower power requirements due to the increased depth to define the final solution.
A new tertiary treatment plant was also required due to the reduction in phosphorous consent.
The process team contacted different suppliers and carried out a whole life cost to select the most appropriate technology.
Here's what you'll do: An ambition to work towards Chartered Engineer status with IChemE or CIWEM.
Excellent report writing, communication and teamwork skills.
Willingness to travel to meet the needs of specific projects is desirable.
Analytical and problem solving, attention to detail and creative thinking.
Experience in design and build projects would be advantageous although not essential.
Comfortable in the use of Microsoft office suite and Microsoft Teams.
Knowledge of AutoCad and 3D design models such as Revit would be an advantage.
Some level of commercial awareness, along with a willingness to learn.
An ability to take direction and guidance, aligned with a positive attitude.
An interest in municipal water and wastewater treatment, along with the associated unit processes and relevant design standards.
