The Role
We are excited to be recruiting the very first Tutors for HMP Millsike, a brand-new prison estate near York!
This is a unique opportunity to be among the first to step into the classrooms in Spring 2025, shaping and delivering education from day one.
We're seeking a dedicated Peer Mentoring Tutor to join our team at HMP Millsike.
In this role, you'll deliver impactful Peer Mentoring qualifications to small groups, developing peer mentors who will support fellow prisoners in areas such as literacy, digital skills, and neurodiverse needs.
Working closely with key departments, including healthcare, you'll tailor training to ensure peer advocates are equipped to assist in prisoner induction and support services.
As a Peer Mentoring Tutor, you will:
Deliver Gateway Qualifications in Peer Mentoring up to Level 2, supporting neurodiverse learners, low-literacy learners, and promoting digital literacy.
Collaborate with healthcare and prison staff to effectively train peer advocates.
Interview and allocate prisoners to peer mentoring roles, matching skills to position needs.
Develop and monitor Individual Learning Plans, offering guidance to support each learner's success.
Requirements:
A Level 3 qualification (or above) in Peer Mentoring, Literacy, or a related field.
A recognised teaching qualification such as PTLLS, AET, CET, or equivalent (Level 5 teaching qualification is highly desirable).
Strong people skills, empathy, and the ability to build positive relationships with learners.
Excellent organisational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
