Our Land team are seeking Principal Land Consultants to join our UK team.
The location is based in our Birmingham Mailbox offices.
This is an exciting opportunity to be part of the largest Land business in the UK and to make a meaningful and lasting contribution to the success of high-profile infrastructure projects across the UK and Ireland.
Your focus of this exciting new role and opportunity is to help manage the delivery of detailed, high quality land ownership information and provide land advice to our clients for a pipeline of some of the most exciting infrastructure projects in the UK today.
Our clients develop major rail, energy, highways and water infrastructure for which they need government approval.
As a Principal Land Consultant, you will manage the technical delivery of land referencing projects ensuring the validity, accuracy and auditability of information collected.
You will work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment, managing a team of Land Consultants to deliver the necessary information required to identify, notify, engage, gain access to lands and subsequently compensate landowners for any impact caused by scheme development.
You will provide support to the project owner by delivering technical elements of projects on time, within budget and to the agreed standards.
There are further opportunities to provide training to our wider Land team, widening your involvement into new sectors and regions, working with our Land & Property and Surveying Services teams and alongside our Digital, Environmental and Planning colleagues to gain a broader understanding of infrastructure development.
WSP will support your chartership and membership with professional institutions and facilitate volunteering in local communities.
If you wish to attain professional chartership of the RICS, RGS and APM can pursue this via the WSP Land Academy (subject to the professional body recognising existing qualifications).
Under the umbrella of the Land Academy, and as appropriate to the chartership route taken, candidates will choose a mentor, have regular meetings with their mentor, and be able to access training, be this internal training or external events.
A little more about your role… Manage and coordinate the technical spatial delivery element of land referencing projectsEnsure collaboration is embedded within the culture of team and project delivery and bring improvements in quality of delivery to clientsCoordinate the development of GIS solutions and trainingLead on quality assurance of deliverables and drive and promote innovation within team to improve working practices.Manage, motivate, mentor and develop staffLead delivery of training on technical topicsWork closely with the Project Manager and client, building relationships and raising the profile of WSPLead on and contribute to business development and client relationship management (externally and internally) through the promotion of GIS and data solutionsSupport the writing of bids/tenders to secure opportunities from internal and external clientsDevelop efficient working practices to provide industry leading, best value services to our clientsLead weekly / monthly project meetings with the team and client as appropriateSupport the Land UAV capability and serviceEnsure that the team has the necessary skills and resources in order to deliver successful projects and grow the business; Contribute to the business strategyUK travel, on occasionsCoordinate PinPoint development discussions with colleagues in iCRCWhat we will be looking for you to demonstrate… A degree in Geography (or a relevant discipline) or relevant technical experienceSuccessfully led a technical team of land consultants to deliver land referencing or land assembly services on an infrastructure projectDetailed knowledge and experience of UK statutory consents requirements, such as a hybrid Bill, TWAO, DCO, CPO, and/or Vesting Order as well as an understanding of the land and property industryThe ability to work calmly in a fast-paced environmentEvidence of leading teams to deliver complex workExcellent communication and organisational skills and ability to liaise at all levels with both internal and external stakeholdersConfidence and experience in providing technical advice to clientsHighly motivated and with good industry networkEnthusiasm for continuous professional development, and professional accreditationImagine a better future for you and a better future for us all.
