Principal Highway Engineer Our client is looking for a Principal Highway Engineer to join their team across Scotland. They are one of the UK's leading engineering consultancies, delivering high-quality design and engineering services across a wide range of sectors. As a Principal Highway Engineer, you will be responsible for the design, management, and delivery of highway projects, contributing to the improvement and maintenance of the region's road network. You will work on a variety of projects, including new highway designs, road safety improvements, and the maintenance of existing infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities of the role: Develop and prepare highway designs for new and existing roads, ensuring they meet client specifications, industry standards, and safety regulations. Manage and coordinate highway engineering projects from concept to completion, ensuring timelines, budgets, and quality standards are met. Work closely with multidisciplinary teams including civil engineers, environmental consultants, and transport planners to deliver integrated solutions. Provide technical advice and support to clients and colleagues on highway engineering matters, including traffic management, drainage, and pavement design. Conduct site inspections and assessments to inform the design process and ensure compliance with safety and environmental standards. Prepare and review technical reports, drawings, and specifications following relevant guidelines and client requirements. Liaise with local authorities, contractors, and other stakeholders to ensure effective communication and successful project outcomes. Ensure all designs and projects comply with relevant legislation, including health and safety standards and environmental regulations. Key requirements of the role: Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline. Proven experience in highway engineering, including design, construction, and project management. Proficiency in relevant software such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, or similar design tools. Knowledge of highway design standards, including DMRB (Design Manual for Roads and Bridges) and local authority specifications. Strong understanding of UK health and safety legislation, CDM regulations, and environmental considerations. Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to work on complex engineering challenges. Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, for client and team interactions.
