Job summary We have a vacancy for an experienced Genetic Counsellor with a specialist interest in cancer genetics to work at Principal level in this WTE post.
This post combines a clinical, managerial and education role.
The post holder will also be involved in education and training in cancer genetics and in other rare inherited disease The post holder will be based at Birmingham Women's Hospital and hold clinics in the West Midlands region, in person, virtually and by phone.
Main duties of the job The post holder will be based at Birmingham Women's Hospital and hold clinics in the West Midlands region.
Clinically the role can encompass inherited cancer but this can be alongside a rare disease or specialist interest caseload if desired.
This post is an integral part of the Genetic Counsellor management team and the post holder will contribute to leading our compassionate team of genetic counsellors, genomics associates, genomic practitioners and nurse specialists in genetics in conjunction with the Principal and Consultant Genetic Counsellors and Lead Consultant GC.
As a Principal genetic counsellor the successful applicant will make a key contribution to the strategic direction of the genetic counselling and clinical service through supported roles in management, education, training, research and service improvement.
The successful candidate will be a GCRB or HCPC Registered Genetic Counsellor (or overseas equivalent) with significant experience of genetic counselling, including cancer genetics.
Experience of education, leadership, service development and management are advantageous, particularly at principal GC level.
Our service have a hybrid model of working combining working remotely and in the department at Birmingham Women's Hospital and are able to consider flexible and part time working.

Person Specification Qualifications Essential Genetic Counsellor Registration with the GCRB, HCPC or equivalent overseas GC register Other Requirements Desirable Full clean Driving licence and access to car insured for business use Knowledge & Nature of Experience Essential Several years of professional clinical experience as a Genetic Counsellor.
Experience of working in a multidisciplinary setting and liaising with other health professionals.
Experience of leadership of a team, project or development.
Experience of education and training within genomics, including supervision of trainee genetic counsellors Analytical & Judgement Skills Essential Ability to work autonomously and manage independent clinical caseload.
Displays commitment to professional development through education, research and audit.
Highly motivated, ambitious and able to work on own initiative.
Ability to critically analyse and evaluate research findings to inform practice development.
Professional / Mangerial / Specialist Knowledge Essential Well-developed IT and presentation skills including familiarity with clinical and administrative databases and Microsoft Office packages Desirable Phlebotomy
