Job Description What your new role will entail: We are looking for a Principal Engineer to join our growing Water Resources team. You will be a senior technical resource that will guide our more junior staff and proactively aim to develop our offering to local authorities, water companies, private and public sector clients. Our work ranges from feasibility studies right through to detailed design and construction management. We also carry out research projects, contributing to national policy and guidance.
Principal accountabilities: Help our clients reach their net zero and biodiversity ambitions by delivering low carbon solutions that have a positive impact on nature and the communities we serve. Lead and deliver water engineering design projects such as SUDS schemes, river restoration, canal engineering, dams and flood alleviation schemes. Contribute to large, multidisciplinary projects such as transportation upgrades, major developments and renewable energy. Lead and input into tenders ranging from innovative one-off projects to multimillion pound framework contracts. Mentor staff within the team to support their professional development. Build relationships with clients and across other technical disciplines. Lead flood risk appraisals and business cases for public and private sector clients. Keep up-to-date with developments in legislation and guidelines that may affect our services. Use AECOM's project management systems to deliver high-quality outputs to our clients in line with the agreed programme and budget. Work closely with our clients and teams of engineers and technical specialists to help our clients deliver a wide range of fluvial, coastal, surface water or drainage flood risk management projects. Our current clients in the UK vary from local government, water companies and private developers. We also have large contracts for Middle Eastern clients where you could be working on some of the most ambitious projects in the world.
We have circa 670 staff across the UK mainly in Basingstoke, Belfast, Bristol, Chesterfield, Croydon, Edinburgh, Leeds and Manchester. You will be based in our Basingstoke office but will work closely with other teams across the UK.
We are a close-knit team of engineers, technicians, hydrologists, hydraulic modellers and project managers. Some of us spend most of our working time in the office, and some regularly work from home. We meet every week to check in, share news and plan work. Qualifications Here's what we will need from you: Evidence of significant experience in water engineering design such as river restoration, SuDS, fish passes, reservoirs, culverts, walls and weirs to appropriate codes and standards. Demonstrable experience of working on projects at appraisal, outline design, detailed design and constructions stages. Experience and understanding of AutoCAD, Microsoft Office programs and other relevant software packages. Experience with civil engineering specifications (such as SHW and CESWI) and contracts (such as NEC). Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in Civil Engineering. Obtained or near to obtaining professional qualification with ICE or similar. #J-18808-Ljbffr
