Postdoctoral Research Assistant In Steels For Nuclear Fusion Reactors

Department of Materials, Parks Road, Oxford This research position is to work on the EPSRC-funded NEURONE project aiming to design, develop and produce suitable high-temperature, radiation-resistant nano-structured steels capable of being employed in the UK's prototype STEP fusion reactor.
The post is initially available until 31 March 2026, but with expectation of extension for up to 2 further years subject to approval.
The successful applicant will have a PhD (or be near completion) with relevant experience in atom probe tomography and focussed-ion beam techniques.
This includes the preparation of irradiated specimens using FIB-based 'lift-out' techniques, along with utilising EDX and TKD capabilities.
They will have the ability to manage their own academic research and have excellent communication skills, including the ability to effectively liaise with other project partners, presenting research results and drafting data for wider publication.
It would be desirable to have some experience in working with irradiated materials, and knowledge of steels utilised in nuclear (fission and/or fusion) environments.
