Policy Adviser – Regional Growth

Details of the offer

Are you looking for an exciting new opportunity working on a key priority of this Government?
This role would suit someone who can digest a wide range of information to draw out the key conclusions, bring together different teams around a shared challenge, and who is curious about regional economic inequalities and how to address them.
If that sounds like you, we'd love to hear from you!
About the Team The Local Government and Reform team is responsible for managing HM Treasury's interests in local government policy and funding.
We work closely with colleagues in the Ministry for Housing, Communities and Local Government, and other departments, to shape the government's approach to local economic growth and local government.
This includes ensuring that councils have the resources they need to deliver key services and implement government priorities, including reform of adult and children's social care.
We also seek to ensure that financial powers and policy responsibilities are devolved to the most appropriate level of government.
HM Treasury has an interest in these issues from both a spending perspective (ensuring expenditure is affordable and delivered to budget) and an economic perspective (evaluating whether policies offer value-for-money and will deliver the benefits envisaged).
The team is split into two units: English Devolution and Economic Clusters Unit and the Local Government Finance Unit.
About the Job In this role, you will: 1.
Support the team's work on regional growth.
2.
Build positive relationships across a broad range of teams.
3.
Advise Ministers to deliver effective policy.
4.
Make a positive contribution to the team environment.
No specific qualifications or experience of working in policy are required to apply for this role.
What matters is whether you have the core skills - like clear communication, critical thinking, and the ability to prioritise - required to develop solutions to complex challenges.
As long as you have the curiosity to learn the job-specific requirements, we will provide excellent support to help the postholder thrive.
If that sounds like you, we'd love to have you join us!
About You The successful candidate will have the ability to evaluate evidence from a range of competing sources to come to clear recommendations or conclusions.
You will be able to communicate appropriately for the audience, both in writing and verbally, to ensure complex or difficult messages are communicated clearly and respectfully.
You'll be able to proactively prioritise across work to deliver your objectives.
Lastly, you will have the ability to work collaboratively with others to deliver on shared objectives even where there may be areas of difference.
Some of the Benefits our people love!
·      25 days annual leave (rising to 30 after 5 years), plus 8 public holidays and the King's birthday (unless you have a legacy arrangement as an existing Civil Servant).
Additionally, we operate flexitime systems, allowing employees to take up to an additional 2 days off each month ·      Flexible working patterns (part-time, job-share, condensed hours) ·      Generous parental and adoption leave packages ·      Access to a generous Defined Benefit pension scheme with employer contributions of 28.97% ·      Access to a cycle-to-work salary sacrifice scheme and season ticket advances ·      A range of active staff networks, based around interests (e.g.
analysts, music society, sports and social club) and diversity For more information about the role and how to apply, please follow the apply link.
If you need any reasonable adjustments to take part in the selection process, please tell us about this in your online application form, or speak to the recruitment team.
