Key Responsibilities of a PMLD Teaching Assistant: Provide tailored one-on-one and small group support for students with profound and multiple learning disabilities (PMLD).
Work closely with teachers and multidisciplinary teams to design and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) that meet each student's unique needs.
Support students with physical requirements, such as personal care, mobility, and feeding, ensuring their dignity, comfort, and safety at all times.
Foster a positive, inclusive, and supportive learning environment that promotes student engagement, independence, and progress.
Collaborate with the SEN (Special Educational Needs) team to monitor student progress and adapt teaching strategies accordingly.
Use specialized resources and equipment to enhance accessibility and engagement during learning activities.
Partner with parents, carers, and external professionals to ensure comprehensive support for each student's development.
Requirements of a PMLD Teaching Assistant: Previous experience working with children or young people with PMLD in an educational setting.
A compassionate, patient, and empathetic approach to working with students with complex needs.
Familiarity with Makaton, PECS, or other communication methods (highly desirable).
Knowledge of the SEN Code of Practice and safeguarding policies.
Relevant qualifications (e.g., Level 3 Supporting Teaching and Learning, SEN diploma, or equivalent).
Excellent teamwork and communication skills.
