The Opportunity Reporting to an Engineering Lead, while working in an integrated team between The Client and Responsible Designer, as our next Piping Engineer you will play a pivotal role in assessing, answering and responding to modifications raised by site contractors for the Piping and Supports scope across CI/BOP and Nuclear Island buildings.
While the role focuses primarily on mechanical disciplines, this role involves close collaboration with various teams including site contractors (main suppliers and sub-suppliers), construction, quality, project management, and design teams.
This position offers the opportunity to engage with both on-site and back-office design teams, ensuring seamless coordination across multiple stakeholders and disciplines.

What you will be doing In this crucial role, you'll offer support when an issue arises on site with construction and installation and be part of a team who assess the acceptability of issues and develop design solutions to address them promptly.
This role involves answering and resolving queries for non-conformance, design changes, and exemption requests, which require categorisation based on their nuclear safety and environmental impact.
You will critically assess the feasibility of challenging design decisions to ensure they align with project strategies, collaborating closely with the technical team to find effective solutions.
Other roles and responsibilities in the role include: Ensure compliance with Nuclear Safety and Environmental Regulation requirements through thorough oversight.
Gathering input data, analysing/updating hypothesis notes, and preparing loading description reports.
Performing mechanical stress analyses: piping flexibility calculations, piping supports calculations, or any analysis required to resolve encountered issues.
Advocate for design decisions that align with the project's strategic objectives.
Coordinate with external organisations to provide necessary support.
Contribute to resolving and closing Open Points effectively.
Evaluate technical risks and implement mitigation strategies accordingly.
Foster a strong relationship with EDF EPR Engineering (Responsible Designer).
Report directly to an Engineering Lead on operational matters.
Who you are Although a degree in a relevant subject matter would be advantageous, it is not essential.
With this said, we are looking for you to hold the following skills and experiences to complete this role: Proficient in piping and support design for nuclear systems, installation, and commissioning.
Familiarity with piping design principles such as mechanical sizing, piping flexibility calculation and support calculation.
Knowledge of QRA, EUROCODE, ASME and RCC-M code Demonstrated application of multidisciplinary technical expertise in the nuclear industry.
Familiarity with the construction and installation sector.
Understanding of Health & Safety legislation, including CDM and Nuclear Site License requirements.
Experienced in welding engineering principles.
Skilled in influencing diverse stakeholders, especially in a site environment.
Capable of working autonomously, taking proactive measures, and reporting or escalating pertinent issues.
