Main duties of the job Responsibilities of this job roleIf you are successful in your application to this post, you will be expected to manage and deliver on the responsibilities outlined below as well as those not included here, call today to discuss further:To provide advanced assessment and treatment for inpatients and outpatients with complex needs, and to provide experienced advice, guidance and information to patients Supervise and teach recently qualified physiotherapists/therapy assistants/studentsTo provide high quality, safe and effective physiotherapy services to older adults, as part of a cohesive multi-professional team.To work collaboratively with patients and their carers to effectively assess, goal plan and treat patients following admission to hospital and strive to maximise their independence and quality of life.To supervise and teach recently qualified physiotherapists, support workers physiotherapy studentsTo actively participate in quality improvement, clinical audit and research projectsTo take an active part in the teams extended hours and seven-day working roster to maximise the access and delivery of older adult rehabilitation.

To work within alegal framework with patients who lack the capacity to consent and are deprivedof their liberty.7.To co-ordinate intervention where thereis a need to collaborate across multiple disciplines.8.To maintain accurate written recordsusing an electronic patient record system and maintain fidelity to professionalstandards.9.To determine and mitigate for risk ofpatient and staff harm using the agreed risk assessment frameworks and theTrusts manual handling policy.10.
To demonstratephysical ability to carry out physiotherapy assessment and interventionsincluding manual therapy techniques and therapeutic handling11.
To demonstratehighly developed dexterity, co-ordination and palpatory skills for assessmentand manual treatment of patients12.
To representphysiotherapy and/or individual patients at multi disciplinary team meetings,to ensure delivery of co-ordinated care.13.
To be anintegral part of the teams extended hours and seven-day service provisionLeadership and management1.
To beresponsible for the competent use and maintenance of rehabilitation equipmentand support others in the effective and safe use of this equipment.2.
To assist inthe supervision, teaching and appraisal of junior staff and assistants.3.
To undertakedelegated tasks and roles from the team lead and be able to deputise for themon occasions.4.
To effectivelyplan and organise own time, patient caseload, meetings, training and be able toadjust plans as required according to staffing levels and unpredictablefactors.5.
To assist inthe planning of junior staff, students and assistant timetables and deputisefor senior staff in organisational duties.Educationand training1.To organise and contribute to the teamstraining and post-registration education programme.2.To contribute to the education ofmultidisciplinary groups, patients, families and carers as appropriate.3.To be responsible for individualundergraduate student physiotherapists supervision and practice-basedlearning.4.To adopt a proactive approach inlearning from others within, and outside of the physiotherapy profession.5.To be responsible for continuingprofessional development and maintain a portfolio record to evidence this.6.To maintain contemporary knowledge toapply and maintain best practice in older adult care and rehabilitation.Researchand development1.To actively participate in the departmentsquality improvement and clinical audit programme through the completion ofauthorised projects2.To implement and maintainevidenced-based physiotherapy practice through continuing professionaldevelopment3.To ensure good working knowledge andapplication of national and local clinical standardsEffort1.To be able to undertake episodes ofmoderate physical effort for several short periods during a shift.2.To be able to effectively maintainconcentration at work despite frequent interruptions and, at times, anunpredictable working pattern.3.To tolerate and manage frequent exposureto distressing or emotional circumstances and maintain a high level ofprofessionalism.4.To tolerate and professionally managefrequent exposure to unpleasant working conditions, such as exposure to bodilyfluids and offensive odours.INFECTIONCONTROLInfectioncontrol is everyones responsibility.

A Disclosure Application Form will be sent to all newappointees with their appointment letter and the completed form must besubmitted for verification on the first day of employment.Allphysiotherapists must be registered with the Health Professions Council priorto commencing work, and produce the registration document on their first day ofemployment.
Staff must then ensure their registration is maintained accordingto Trust Policy.This post isone of continual development.
