Job summary West Mendip Primary Care Network (PCN) is looking to recruit a skilled phlebotomist for 20 hours a week who will work under the direct supervision of the Practice Nurses and strictly in accordance with specific practice guidelines and protocols.The successful post-holder will be responsible for managing a pre-booked clinic performing venepuncture to obtain blood samples from patients, only as the result of a referral from a GP, Nurse Practitioner, hospital request form or via the workflow team.The role will be required to work at Vine Surgery, Street and Glastonbury Surgery.If you're interested and would like to know more about the role, please contact Andy Lee, West Mendip PCN Operations Manager on or 01458 551 042 to arrange an informal discussion.
Main duties of the job Ensuring that the patient is as comfortable and relaxed as possible and confirming their agreement to the collection of a blood sampleCollection of sample(s)s of blood in accordance with training and proceduresEnsuring samples are stored in appropriate containersAccurate, legible labelling of all samples to confirm patient identityChecking patient identification against GP/Nurse request and confirming with patient whenever possibleRecording collection of blood sample in patient record in accordance with practice procedureEnsuring that samples are dispatched to the appropriate laboratories in a timely fashionEnsuring that anomalies are reported to a senior member of staffNotifying the GP/Nurse of any significant patient issuesChecking sharps bins and replacing when full.
