Pharmacy Support Worker (Acute/Mental Health Sites Only)

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is one of the largest healthcare systems in the UK employing around 40,000 staff in a wide range of clinical and non-clinical professions and job roles.
We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health care services to a population of over 1.15 million and a wider population of 2.2 million when our regional and national services are included.
The shift pattern is Monday-Friday 09.00-17.00/ 430pm on a Wednesday (37 hours) participation in public holidays and weekend working.
We are looking for highly motivated and proactive individual to join our friendly and supportive pharmacy team in the delivery of clinical pharmacy services to a variety of clinical areas throughout Gartnavel General Hospital site.
You will: Ensure the safe and effective supply of medicines to patients, co-ordinate and manage ward top-up services and be responsible for recycling & redistributing non-stock medicines that have been ordered for patients, helping to ensure that missed doses are avoided.
Reduce drug expenditure and potential subsequent waste.
Dispense medicines for patients being discharged from hospital and support nursing staff with good housekeeping of medicines.
Be an integral member of the pharmacy team and work closely with the wider multidisciplinary team within the arthroplasty service including nurses, medical staff, pharmacists and pharmacy technicians.
Requirements: You must have excellent communication skills both verbal and written.
Be able to organise and prioritise your own workload and the workload of others.
A proficient level of general education at National 5/standard Grade level or above is essential.
An SVQ/NVQ Level 2 pharmacy qualification or demonstrable training to equivalent level or working towards this.
Proficient IT skills including typing and knowledge of Microsoft office packages (word, excel), email systems (outlook) is essential.
Experience in using a stock control system is desirable.
Previous experience in healthcare/pharmacy or customer facing role is desirable however full training will be provided.

NHS Scotland is reducing their full time working week from 37.5 to 37 hours per week from 1 April 2024 but with no change in pay.
This reduction will also be applied pro rata for part time staff.

However, as not all service areas will be able to adopt the 37 hour working week immediately from 1 April 2024, you may be required to work up to an additional 30 minutes per week for a temporary period for which you would be paid until the service you are working in changes rosters or working patterns to accommodate the new reduced working week.
