This role will have key specialist clinical, consultative,training, practice development and strategic responsibilitiesYou will provide a link between the maternity service andthe other services involved in mental health care to women, including localIAPT providers and specialist mental health teamsThe post holder will ensure the delivery of high qualitycare to women experiencing mental health challenges and with the support of thematernity matron, contribute to the strategic direction for maternity andwomens services.

Job description Job responsibilities The post holder will be an expert ClinicalPractitioner who specialises in the care of women with, or at risk of a mentalillness.
Plans, implements and evaluates careUphold the privacy and dignity of thepatient and respect the equality of patients at all timesCommunicate effectively with serviceusers and their families addressing their needs for information and handlepotential problems/complaints sensitively and in accordance with Trust policy,referring to their Midwifery Manager when appropriateCommunicate with GPs, midwives andother health professionals concerning the care of mental health in pregnancyand the postnatal periodProvide expert advice and act as resource forother midwives and the wider professional team.Enable colleagues to develop the necessaryskills to support women experiencing perinatal mental health issues.
Ensure that midwifery practice is in keepingwith current evidence and is appropriate for each individual woman.Identify, participate in and facilitate researchand audit.Have acquired or be prepared to extend skillsrelevant to perinatal mental healthAs a lead midwife have responsibility forservice development and quality improvement within the service andwork closely with members of the multidisciplinary team to develop plans thatmeet targets set by Government initiativesWrite departmental and implement Trustwide/departmental policies, procedures and guidelinesTo support the Trust maternity servicesprogrammes to meet its statutory requirements and objectives in terms ofClinical Governance (CQC standards, Risk Management, clinical risk)Fulfils the role of supervisor to thestudent midwives and nurses by teaching, assessing and evaluating theirprogress.Participates in induction programmes for newstaff to the unitRepresent the service at local,regional and national meetings and conferencesBe aware of own professional limitations andseek guidance if required Person Specification Experience Essential Significant post registration experience in all areas of Midwifery Evidence of ongoing and relevant personal and professional development in the last two years.
Leadership Training Relevant and recent clinical experience or with the ability to demonstrate significant experience in midwifery practice and responsibility for managing a clinical team Experience of working with service users to improve patient experience.
Experience of clinical governance.
Experience and working knowledge of safeguarding Experience of audit, research and evidence based care Experience of management/leadership skills and HR management processes Desirable Undertaken clinical and midwifery research NIPE practitioner knowledge and Awareness Essential Good understanding of the current and emerging NHS maternity transformation programme and key national Midwifery drivers.
Understanding of regulatory processes around Midwifery Understanding of clinical governance and the importance of the identification, management and monitoring of risk processes Awareness of own limitations and when to seek advice, guidance and support Desirable In depth specialist knowledge of perinatal mental health Qualifications Essential Registered Midwife Current NMC registration.
BSc in Midwifery Desirable Professional Midwifery Advocate (or willingness to undertake).
