Main duties of the job As a newly qualified GP at Jurassic Coast PCN, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality, patient-centred care across three practices.
Your clinical responsibilities will include managing consultations during practice appointment hours, conducting telephone and occasional home visits, and triaging patients via eConsult, telephone, or in person.
You will prescribe medications, manage repeat prescriptions, and process test results, all in line with national and local guidelines.
Additionally, you will diagnose and manage acute and chronic conditions, support patients with complex needs, and provide health and wellbeing advice to promote healthier lifestyles.
Throughout, you will be encouraged to make autonomous clinical decisions while benefiting from structured mentoring and a supportive environment.Beyond direct patient care, you will contribute to the smooth running of the practice by engaging in clinical governance activities such as audits and significant event reviews, ensuring continual service improvement.
You will also collaborate with colleagues in practice meetings, assist with administrative duties such as referrals and medical reports, and support vulnerable patients in accordance with legal frameworks.

Job description Job responsibilities Clinical ResponsibilitiesPatient CareDeliver evidence-based medicine in line with national and local guidelines, with appropriate support and mentoring.Conduct in-practice consultations during clinical appointment hours, under guidance when necessary.Participate in patient triage via in-person visits, eConsult, and telephone (if covering for an Advanced Nurse Practitioner).Undertake telephone consultations and minimal home visits (typically 01 per day).Review and sign repeat prescription requests with oversight as needed.Process and manage patient test results, with guidance from experienced colleagues for complex cases.Prescribe medications in accordance with local and national guidelines, with support as you build confidence.Refer patients to secondary or urgent care services and coordinate additional interventions as appropriate.Begin managing long-term conditions and complex cases, with structured mentoring and development.Promote healthy living and wellbeing strategies, providing advice to encourage healthier lifestyles.Participate in patient testing and screening as required.Develop clinical decision-making skills with appropriate support.Engage with the development and implementation of practice policies and guidelines.Patient CommunicationCommunicate sensitively with patients and carers, especially when delivering difficult news, with guidance from senior colleagues.Adapt communication to suit patients needs, including language, cultural, and cognitive considerations.Learn to anticipate and overcome barriers to communication, seeking support where necessary.Explain risks and treatment options clearly, ensuring patients understand and provide informed consent.Delivering High-Quality ServicesProvide high-quality care to patients, aligned with your professional competencies and under supervision.Monitor the standard of care provided and participate in peer review and feedback sessions.Take part in clinical governance activities, including audits and reviewing significant events, to support learning and service improvement.Engage in team discussions and training to build confidence and develop skills.Work collaboratively to support vulnerable patients and ensure appropriate care in line with legal and practice policies.Non-Clinical ResponsibilitiesManagement and LeadershipBegin to develop workload management skills, working closely with mentors and practice partners.Participate in decision-making processes with support, raising concerns through appropriate channels.Build professional relationships with colleagues and external stakeholders through shadowing and involvement in meetings.Learn to implement clinical guidelines and identify areas for improvement within practice processes.Contribute to the efficient running of the practice, gaining experience in areas such as governance, IT, and staff training.Practice OperationsProcess medical reports, referrals, and correspondence under supervision.Maintain accurate and timely electronic patient records.Contribute to audit processes and QOF data collection with guidance from senior staff.Participate in practice meetings, including clinical and educational discussions.Represent the practice at external events where appropriate, with support.Personal and Professional DevelopmentAdhere to the GMC Code of Conduct and work towards fulfilling revalidation requirements.Prepare for and participate in your annual appraisal.Engage in regular mentoring sessions with senior colleagues to support your development.Develop time management skills to prioritise your workload effectively.Attend training and learning sessions to enhance your clinical and non-clinical skills.Stay informed about evidence-based guidelines (, NICE) and contribute to clinical discussions.Participate in educational activities, such as case reviews and significant event analyses, to build confidence and experience.
Person Specification Qualifications Essential Fully qualified GP with GMC registration.
Within two years of the date of their certificate of completion of training (CCT), issued by the General Medical Council.
On/eligible to be on a medical performers list Evidence of annual appraisal and revalidation (when appropriate).
