JOB DESCRIPTION JOB TITLE: Pastoral Support Officer REPORTS TO: School Principal RESPONSIBLE FOR: Support staff PURPOSETo support the School's Pastoral Support Team to promote the social, behavioural and emotional wellbeing of pupils and to tackle any obstacles (social, emotional or behavioural) to learning.
Related services·Assistin thecompletion ofUNOCINIs ifrequired.·Attendcase conferencesand LACreviews onbehalf ofand withstudents.·Undertake home visits as and when required.·Mobilise family, school and community-based resources to enable the child to learn as effectively as possible in his or her educational programme.·Assist in developing early intervention strategies to address pupil needs including mentalhealth,emotional literacy,self-discipline andnegative peerand communityinfluences.·Ensuringup todaterecords ofstudents andfamily engagement.·Utilise a variety of sources of evidence to demonstrate impact in the role on a termly basis viaa termly review report - students/ parental/ external feedback, student voice, attendancestatistics, case conference attendance statistics, behavioural record and any other source ofevidencethat will demonstrateimpact.·Workcloselywiththe Safeguardingteamand meetingona regular basis.
Services to students·Provide crisisintervention.·Develop intervention strategies to support academic success.·Userestorative and trauma-informed approaches toaddressand reduceconflictand/orwrongdoing.·Assistthestudenttodevelop emotionalliteracyandpositivesocialinteraction skills.·Act as advocate for students in case conferences.·Haveappropriateprogrammesandsupportinplacefortargetedstudents.
Services to parents/families·Develop positive working relationships with parents/carers to support student's school progress.·Signpost supporttofamilies thatarestrugglingto accessschoolandcommunityresources.
Services to school personnel·Provide staff with information to better understand factors affectinga student's performanceand behaviour.·Undertake assessments on pupils who may have mental health issues.·Develop staff in-service training programmes on factors that impinge on students' progress art school, e.g., trauma, neglect, domestic abuse.·Work with teachers to strengthen and restore relationships when issues arise.·Provide direct support to staff when required.
School-community liaison·Helpschoolmaintainpositiveworkingrelationshipswithexternalagencies.·Identify and build an inventory of local community resources and external support services.·Assist in making referrals to appropriate statutory, voluntary and community organisations whenstudentand/or family support is required.·Advocate for new and improved community/school service to meet the needs of students and families.·Help the system respond effectively to each student's needs.·Identify,report,andprocess any safeguardingissues.·Providecase managementfor studentsand familiesrequiring multipleresources.
